I'm responding to the tweet, not the post. Was it really a sign of a young team sticking together? Who dropped the gloves last night, anyone who will help set the tone of the franchise in upcoming years?

I'm not criticizing anyone and I see why the Rangers responded like that but I'm not entirely sold on this being a bonding experience when most of the participants don't seem to be in the long term plans. Maybe it sets expectations.

stupid to fire Davison and Gorton..
It like Al Davis is running the rangers..

The fine of 250K is priceless and sends a message to Dolan.. probably trying blame it on ex employees.

impressed that strome fought, but need to win more face offs to stay with the team..

Nevy is a goner!!

I just wonder what the price on Tkachuk would be for Calgary. There is just so much interesting dialogue around that team. Reminiscent of St. Louis before they rebounded and won that cup. The got a boost from Sutter and then same old same old. Chatter about the guys getting fed up with Tkachuk for always stirring shit up on the ice. Dragging his team into fights.

I said something similar about Avery the other day. He instantly raised the level of engagement when he arrived. I would be very concerned if I was Treliving. People mad about battling? But you can't trade 19 players.

We both need to alter our rosters. We've been circling each other for years.
Tkachuk is another left wing. We have too many already.

Drury certainly has plenty of experience with unfortunate NMC's, lol.

If Zibanejad does get traded for younger players, I actually wouldn't be surprised if @Machinehead idea comes true and Getzlaf is brought in on a short term basis to provide some leadership. His fancy stats have been decent, he's above average on faceoffs. I think he could play the Steve Rucchin role here for a year.

I'm an advocate of Getzlaf. He is the exact right mix of veteran leadership, has won, tough, center and most likely cheap. However, that is only applicable if he doesn't retire.

I bet it is Anaheim, Playoff top contender or Retire and I would love Getzlaf. doubt he comes here although who really knows.

I wouldn’t be opposed to Getzlaf when the musical chairs are decided. I did like having the youngest team in the league but those days look to be done.

There will definitely be a Marcus Foligno type on the 4th line and a nasty 3rd pair LD. I can also see Geertsen inserted when facing a lineup with a Morin/Johnston type in it.

Dolan will not allow the turn the other cheek mindset any further it seems.

Drury has face i want to smack

Like hes about to cry.

Never liked him. Thought he was super overrated.

I do hope he's a good GM, but man. That face.

Want. To. Punch.

Gorton's face was too small so at least Drury's is normal size.

He's slow AF but he has the advantage of also being long AF.

I don't know if he has any interest in moving out East, but I'd be on board.

There is so much going on, so much info to take in.

But one thing, it’s very far from obvious what rationale is behind firing Gorton and keeping Drury. If you mislike Gorton’s direction — assumably Drury has been aboard on the same direction. The only way to come to another conclusion if Drury has told Dolan so or raised strong concerns.

All that just seems a bit unlikely to me. I have a hard time believing that Drury is the long term choice. Time will tell.

And like if Dolan told Gorton, do it my way or you are fired — did Gorton really say, nope, forget about it? Again, if it’s just a matter of direction, this is obviously the alternative you pursuits first.

And if it’s just the direction of the GM, why do you also fire JD?

Ultimately I just think Dolan called around, raised his concerns for top minds around the game willing to lend their brain for a few consulting hours at 2k a pop, or VIP treatment whenever they (or their family) visit NY or whatever. Nobody can deny that we have done a great job accumulating assets, but at the same time, it’s impossible to not note the development of Laf and Kakko entering “worst ever” territory on some fronts, an obvious rift between a coach and highly held top players, a team emerging with a total lack of identity and attitude etc etc etc. And Dolan just had it. Finding someone new can take time, the draft is coming up. Drury runs the ship. But he is far from given as a long term optio .

Im not the least bit concerned about Kakko or Lafreniere’s development at this point, given how limited their usage has been.

Im just so thankful that we lucked out with the draft lottery and Adam Fox, because of Dolan was going to get impatient after three seasons when we only had a skeleton crew of prospects...
