We tried to sign JAM but he didn't want to sign with us, thinking he had a better oath go the NHL elsewhere.
Yea, because most likely he thought he should have gotten a call up or 2. I’m not blaming the organization, I think the same think happened with him in Florida, but sometimes guys are lost in the shuffle

Correct. His reasoning was, at the time, that he had a better chance in Columbus to make the 4th line than in New York where we had Dorsett, Moore and Boyle, arguably the best 4th line we've had since our 1994 Cup run.

So I understand the reasoning. He then bounced around a bit. First Tampa, then Florida, before being handed to Vegas as "incentive to draft Reilly Smith" in the expansion draft.

I'm not convinced he would have had the same development arch had he stayed with the Rangers.

I’m sure people are now bashing brooks because it doesn’t go along with the racist narrative
He wrote an article where DeAngelo gets to explain himself, defend himself a bit, own up to some of his indiscretions. Brooks also then points out that the Herman piece (he doesn't mention Herman by name) has further damaged DeAngelo's reputation, and that that's not really fair, and isn't substantiated by people who have played with him (like Marc Staal) or know him (some random guys from his community). It's your standard "the monster in his own words" article and now he's catching all kinds of shit for writing something that doesn't make Tony out to be the antichrist. And then people get blocked by Brooks and post their DMs where he says "you're blocked" and now it's "Brooks is chicken shit and being mean to random women."

The whole thing is emblematic of what I hate about Twitter. And this is coming from a guy who really dislikes DeAngelo and knows that Brooks is a weenie. The reaction is all over the top, though.

A pulled groin is certainly not good but a thing to keep in mind also though is a lot of players end up playing hurt in playoffs. Anyone who has read Larry Sloman's book on the 1979 Rangers will get the torn groin thing from his recounting of Barry Beck suffering through the same. But it is hard---I get that. The teams that made it to the finals last year---particularly the Dallas Stars were really banged up pretty much to the man.
Yea. I was surprised Lundqvist played as well. Shesty must have been hurting pretty bad. Last year was just weird all around. The rangers were on fire, then covid hit and you can tell the players weren’t ready. I think the majority of them thought the season was done because they looked like ass in the play ins, injuries or not. I’m not complaining because it got us LaF, but woof. Talk about lack of preparation

When he was here he was on an AHL contract. We couldn't have called him up. Wh we we offered an NHL contract he took one from Carolina instead. Nothing we could have done, really. It happens.

So Larry’s respected colleagues in the PHWA that are calling him out are douche bags as well?

It’s not just bloggers and Ranger fans calling him out

The PWHA itself promoted the article. So this is like saying the ABA gave an attorney an award for representing Charles Manson, and some individual attorneys are taking pot shots.

The whole reason those writers are complaining about it is because their associations twitter account promoted a very obvious puff piece

Buchnevich should be ready by then

and Howden!!!!!!

Not exactly the bash bro from Detroit but it’s a more skilled league

“Probert squaring off with Howden and now Kocur lands a right to Buchnevich who is down already”. And Quinn did not dress Lemieux lol

Yea I wrote on the main boards just wait for the facts to come out before you judge the guy. By all means give your opinion, especially on the things that have been verified, but to label him a racist etc with no proof is a slippery slope for everyone. The keyboard warriors came at me hot and heavy. The problem is with all this real time media/news everyone is an activist one way or another. And they love to traffic in fear and outrage. The normal people who just want to make their opinion on facts get blasted if they don’t pick a side quick enough. That’s not just with hockey either. It’s a particularly gross part about our society. I have never had a Facebook or twitter for this sole reason

It's a psychological drive called Directionally Motivated Reasoning.

Most people have underlying biases that drive them to seek confirmatory evidence, choose anecdotes that fit their narrative, and are even more likely to recall evidence that fits with their priors. It's a huge problem in sports, politics, ect.

There's also a cognitive dissonance problem, i.e when a person you like does something stupid/wrong or a person you dislike turns out to do something right.

We are never going to be sober and impartial adjudicators of the facts, and websites like twitter (Which is basically some idiot's idea of "Hey, let's make the dreaded comments section a website") amplify the problems with our reasoning. It's bad. Some dude here legit accused me of racism for not being sufficiently anti-DeAngelo before this ordeal began.

So if one “journalist”s story makes up something out of whole cloth to libel a person, and another journalist clears the record, that’s a puff piece? Hmm...
I don’t have any issues Tony getting the opportunity to say his piece but let’s not get it twisted. This was a coordinated puff piece to help him get traded faster.

This isn’t some noble attempt at journalism

yea logic and reasoning have left the building a long time ago with these platforms. What’s scary is in younger generations 30 and under, basic problem solving doesn’t even apply. One of my favorite quotes ‘here’s to yesterday’ broski

You should go read it a few more times.
