I can sort of understand them deciding that he was too far down the depth chart at the time.
I can't understand why they then traded him for another D-man, nor what they ever saw in Bigras

You win some and lose some.

Cant imagine Boston is thrilled about letting Lindgren go either.

I really wanna know why Ryan Graves was never given a chance here. its not like this team had alot of depth. another reason why I think management is awful at scouting at the pro NHL and AHL level.
That would be more of a player development issue in Hartford with Company Man Ken. Graves wasn't getting better, and had in fact started to regress.

He's also not nearly as good as people thought he was after last season and has already been a scratch this year.

you certainly do, and I don't think anyone really expects us to get it right every time.
I would argue that there's a fair gap from a scouting/roster building perspective between losing Lindgren for Nash compared to Graves for Bigras though...

Sure. We've done a lot of prospect for prospect trades. Graves for Bigras, Kundratek for whoever the hell, Thomas for Kristo... we haven't had one work out yet to my knowledge. Im hopeful that Keane for Gauthier will work out.

You guys remember Jason Megna? I did a double take. He's playing for the Avs now and just drew a nice penalty against the G Knights.

The league announced he was in protocol a while ago. I dont know if its been reported whether he tested positive.

I don’t know where that came from but they never announced him on Covid protocol until this past Thursday. He may have been put on IR but this is new

Haggerty for Raanta was a good one, if you count it.

Werek for Lindberg.

Bickel was not particularly good, but consider we acquired him for Nigel Williams.

Korpikoski for Lisin was the other end of the spectrum, a huge fail.

I think people will care less about the Graves move once it becomes fully apparent that away from Makar, he's just a decent third-pair guy and nothing more.

Sometimes a change of scenery works for one player and not the other. Graves was spinning his wheels with us in Hartford and Ken G his coach there was not doing a really great job of player development his last several years. To be clear though with Colorado he's there to provide a defensive safety valve for more talented offensive D and that's kind of a job description that fits his wheelhouse. I think he's a good player but as an LD he doesn't have the upside of Miller and I prefer the promise of our future D which I'm thinking he would probably struggle to fit in in a couple/three years if he were still here.

We could really use that "3rd pair, nothing more" behind Miller and Lindgren, though. He could bridge the gap to Robertson, even if Hajek, Reunanen, and Jones all poop the bed.

Graves blossoming into a depth NHLer hardly matters from a trade value standpoint however, since we're lucky enough to be looking at Miller and Lindgren develop right now. I'd gladly take him, but we don't NEED him, pretty much.

Here’s a trade proposal that might work: DeAngelo to Chicago for Zadorov. Gives them help and offense from the right side and Chicago already has Keith and de Haan on the left side. DeAngelo makes 1.6 million more I believe. Fills a hole at left d, brings an in your face hard nosed game and immediately makes the Rangers tougher to play against. Would compliment NL when he comes over next year too.

ADA isn't getting traded for anything other than a horrible contract. Think Lucic bad. ADA is basically Ray Rice at this point. ADA has less value than Miroslav Horava.
He's going to have to go play in europe for a few years before a team gives him a flyer; likely a team that the Rangers will face in a playoff series where ADA will be a crucial contributor to our defeat.
Then he will continue to be a thorn in our side for another 6-7 seasons. I imagine he'll be in Philly, NJD, or NYI.

Ray Rice got caught on video attacking his wife in an elevator. These incidents are not the same. Nor should they be looked at as equally bad predicaments. There’s no video of anything Tony did.

I agree with you, but it doesn't change the fact that that's the perception of ADA league wide. He's that level of untouchable right now. Nobody wants him.
He'll go to Europe, play there for 2-3 years, light it up, come back to the NHL, likely to Philly or NYI or NJD on an initial one year deal, tear us up in the playoffs and score a GW game 7 OT goal on Shesty, re-sign there, and then continue to shred us for years to come.
The worst part is that I'll probably be at the game when it happens. The puck will leave the stick of #77, and I will facepalm as it bar downs for the clincher. I will remain in my seat for 10 minutes, face cradled firmly and comfortably by my palm as the guy up the aisle drunkenly screams out for the hockey gods "That goal shouldn't count, the nazi shouldn't even be allowed in the NHL". But it won't matter, there's DeAngelo, celebrating in the corner, mobbed by his Flyers teammates as the Rangers head off the ice and onto the golf course yet again.

Hmmm...seems that’s one of the reasons DeAngelo got run out of town.

Art imitating life in many ways. It's a trend these days, with all these rolling closures. Not surprised it makes it virtually. Cyclical stuff if you ask me. Reminds me of 2017 on these boards. It's always after the election year.

Blackwell reminds me a lot of Megna with the way he plays and is rewarded. Straight into the top-6
Yeah I get the same vibes as well. Hopefully he can settle into a bottom 6 role and be effective and not flame out completely like Megna did.

That’s the issue with playing these types of players over their head. It’s setting them up to fail. Gotta out then in a situation to succeed.

For sure, I would of course undo that trade if I could. At the time, it seemed like a reasonable deal--two guys who had stalled, Bigras more in the PMD mold which we needed. I liked the deal.

I always had Graves pegged as a good option on the bottom pair and I think that's what he is. I do think some people saw his points last year and the fact that he had some absolutely absurd +/- stat though and think he's something else. Again, trade didn't work out, but in terms of what we lost, I don't think it's super significant in the grand scheme.

Didn't Graves also say last year that the Avs coaching staff took him & rebuilt his game from the ground up?
