I thought DeAngelo’s agent did a masterful job giving Brooks the exclusive, coaching Tony on what to say and managing the narrative around Sarnia, racism and social media. Contrite, apologetic and willing to wear the problem. I’m glad to hear that there was no issue whatsoever with K’Andre and nice to see Staal called as a character witness.

Of course, there’s another darker side to the story.

It. just feels so canned to me.

He is a hockey player, not running for congress.

There are three camps
Tony was cancelled because of his politics
Tony was waived because of his immaturity, antics, and temperment
Tony was a racist and a bad person and there could be so much more details that we don't know yet about potential hate crimes

most people have settled on the second but are arguing against either people on the 1st or the 3rd. I'm glad Tony got to say his piece for the record to clear up rumors and his trade is going to be easier with Staal quotes and some responsibility taking from Tony. Let's move on and get back to focusing on blaming Quinn for all of this team's problems.
Marc Staal eliminated number 3. That’s good enough for me.

Again.. After listening to his podcasts.
He's never pushed a narrative and was quite frankly a really cool dude.

I've never heard him bring politics into ANY hockey convo so during those podcasts so I call bullshit..
I met him once he seemed pretty chill, which is why this situation makes no sense to me. Like was he really that bad for the room where this was the only option? Seems like management really shot themselves in the foot

Yes your experience in men’s league locker rooms is very relevant.

That's all well and good but nobody ever insinuated that his podcast was an issue. His behavior in the locker room over the last two months was the issue.

In the 19-20 season Tony:
- Was given the top power play to run
- Was top-5 in scoring among D
- Was given a social media series by the organization
- Was given a two year contract extension

That player was put on waivers two weeks ago. That should tell you all you need to know about how badly he must have screwed up in the eyes of this franchise. It wasn't because they suddenly got woke. It's because Tony is a moron who can't control his own temper and what comes out of his mouth when he's supposed to be focusing on hockey.

Why do we need to target someone at all? We literally drafted that guy first overall like 6 months ago.
And look at who he has to look up to right now on his team and tell me you’re not worried

While I'm certainly not an insider, if you simply take the Brooks version at face value, Tony would still be playing with the team. It fails the smell test.

Moving on from the leadership issue/vacuum.....
The rest of this year should be totally and completely dedicated to playing Kakko with Lafrenienere as much as possible AND finding a true bonafide #1 center for them. Other than Fox and Miller, no one else is off the table. Go out and get a stud to center these two and play them 25 minutes a night.
Enough of the BS

literally whatever it takes

@Edge

Seems Carolina is clearing cap. Given Gordon's circle back track record, is there any whispers of NYR talking to Carolina about a roster player at the moment?

There is absolutely something wrong going on here . That "thing" is Tony being unable to keep his personal business out of the locker room. The guy went from someone the Rangers fronted their social media presence with, top powerplay minutes, and very well liked teammate to being warned he was going to be WAIVED if he didn't keep himself in line. The "thing" here is Tony's inability to shut up and play hockey. He went from organizational asset to outcast in a matter of weeks because of his own antics. The team gave him an ultimatum and he still couldn't stop causing friction with his teammates.

You can choose to believe there's some sort of mysterious agenda driving all of this but the facts are pretty cut and dry.
And you know this how?

Waivers is a pretty special thing this season. Anisimov was on waivers yesterday, Neal today. Komarov and Spezza earlier, and their teams aren't trying to move them. If you're making above a certain amount, its a known fact that you won't be claimed.

Personally.. I'm thinking he decided to be an aggressive voice in the room because certain players weren't playing up to par and decided to call them out on it.

He was pissed off about losing an important game.

Is it a little fwd to bring that kind of confrontation where you're calling out another player? Maybe..But that shouldn't lead to a complete dismissal.

HE IS THE PP and this whole ordeal is completely stupid.

His loss hurts the team.

Was it worth it? NO
