Is Edstrom an Nhl possibility soon, haven't heard much about him since he was drafter, having him and Barron on the 4th line would certainly help with size, throw Gettinger on there and thats a big line, admittedly havent watched Gettinger much this year either.

Barron is a 3rd line. Too skilled for the 4th. I hope he becomes a 2ed liner with his size skill and physical attributes

Ive been following Morgan since he was 12 , i wasnt putting a ceiling on him just putting a 4th line for next year, im doubtful he just jumps up to 3rd or 2nd line next year.

I heard that the antics the management is tired of especially at the worst times. Personally I liked his dad and his sons are fun to watch. What would it take to snag both to NYR??

Matt Tkachuk to NYR for Buchnevich, Miller, and 1st in 2022, 2ed 2023. Jones surpassed Miller in my opinion. Better player in the long run.

Brady Tkachuk to NYR for Lundkvist, Geogrgiev, 1st in 2023, 2ed 2022

Greenway to NYR for Strome

The bolded is abusrd.

Not to mention that it'll take more than that to get Tkachuk if he were to ever shake lose. One player I'd be okay moving Kakko for.

I’m going to throw Peter Popovic in there for consideration among the worst ever. Big, slow, soft, and all-around useless.

I remember one play where Popovic was defending a 2-on-2 with his partner. Popovic’s man had the puck. Popovic is in okay position. The puck carrier attempted a pass and partially fanned on it. So Popovic has a flat, slow moving puck coming to him that he just wants to shovel out to the neutral zone. He whiffs on it. Okay, maybe he was thrown off by the speed of it like a changeup, but it is going so slowly that he has a chance to recover and attempt a second clear. He whiffs on it AGAIN.

Haha, nobody was good for us at that time.

Poppe had a few solid seasons in the NHL, but yeah, I get what you mean...

hmm, i'm gonna say no. Aren't both Tkachuck's LWs? Panarin, Kreider, Lafreniere.

and isn't Greenway a LW also?

I’m intrigued by Danault but it’s all about term and contract construction. 5 years? Yep. 6 years with a NMC in years 1-3? Yep. 5 years with NMC throughout? Nope.

The other thing to consider is Montreal has absurd taxes and the way they’ve handled and continue to handle COVID may be a factor in him turning down that contract. He may be looking for something like that elsewhere which would be intriguing to me.

6 million per season for 5 years with NMC in years 1-3, NTC to 16 teams for years 4-5.

Trade Strome and Buch.

I like Buchnevich, but the more I think about it, the more I feel he should absolutely not be extended under any circumstances.

You have needs, save your cap space for those.

We have Panarin, Lafreniere, Kakko, and Kravtsov. Let me repeat that: we have Panarin, Lafreniere, Kakko, and Kravtsov. Like...yeah. And Kreider is already signed. Who the f*** commits long-term to SIX(!!) wingers????

Just stick somebody there. Like, for f***s sake, Morgan Barron who I'm convinced right now is not a 4th liner in the NHL.

And absolute worst case, Kakko and Kravtsov get a whole bunch of f***ing ice time and you have Johnny Whoeverthef*** on your 3rd line. Deal with it? It's a rebuild...

We did Colin f***ing Blackwell for a season and the world didn't end.

And I'll say this about Blackwell: I absolutely keep him on the roster. He's versatile and good enough if something goes wrong. I just wouldn't give him priority over anyone.

Can Quinn be trusted to not overuse him? I don't know but I've always believed that when you have to take players away from coaches like a child, the coach should go, not the player.

I expect Edström to sign his ELC this year, spend a year on loan in Sweden and then start in Hartford with Henriksson next summer. That way he won't be arb eligible when his ELC expires.

Thanks, his size would be nice on nights vs the isles, Wash, Boston etc, but I'm admittedly unaware of how close he'd be to the NHL or if he ever would be.

i'd also be curious/concerned about the cap hit. he'd be a good fit on the right deal but wouldn't be surprised if he asks for more than he's worth

At this point I think the chances of Buchnevich being here next season are in single digits percentage wise

You know, that Winnipeg dude that came here not long ago about Copp.... I'm not against that at all. It'd be nice to add a good utility guy. I wouldn't give up anything crazy but if you're looking to move out Strome and/or Buch and give the kids bigger roles, he's a nice depth addition. Good defensively, good on the dot, kills penalties. Plug him any position, any line. If Chytil or one of the wingers struggles you got someone to fallback on

I think it boils down to three things:

1) I bring this up every day, I know, but people bring up effort/physicality every day so here we are: this team is SLOW. Like a jar of honey bleeding to death in an igloo. You can't forecheck without speed in 2021. I don't care how tough your lineup is.

2) We don't really employ a system that requires physical play. We're not really interested in rebounds, long periods of cycling, puck support, or clogging up the NZ. We play up and down until something breaks for us, and if it doesn't, dump and change. If opposing coaches -like Barry Trots or anyone a playoff series, for example- simply decides they're not skating up and down the ice with us, we're helpless. It's very similar to AV, but AV's teams actually were fast and got odd-man rushes constantly. @Raspewtin has said it before: we're slow and we play like a fast-break team.

3) This team does legitimately have concentrations of players -most of our veterans and all of our centers- in the same areas who are interested in making plays first and foremost. There's nothing wrong with that. You suck and you're boring without east-west players. The big bad Islanders have a f***ing bunch of guys who dangle and pass the whole game. But they also have Nelson, Pageau, and Cizikas down the middle. We don't have any centers who, traditionally, are good at being centers. Chytil could be but needs to work on faceoffs. Barron, I think, certainly will be. Zibanejad and Strome being the two who play the most by far is probably overkill and makes us a lot less versatile.

What is the solution to these three issues?

This is a part of what I mean when I say that the fans will need to be prepared when trades of assets do not necessarily bring back similar production. A trade of Buchnevich, will probably not mean a 60 point forward coming back.

Lundell! Lundell! Lundell!

The thought of someone coming to NYC to avoid taxes, uh, yeah, that ain’t happening. I wouldn’t be shocked if that’s among the reasons he turned that deal down but if so that guy is headed to Florida, or Texas, or hell even Seattle at this point (still no state income tax in WA right?).

And I'll say this about Blackwell: I absolutely keep him on the roster. He's versatile and good enough if something goes wrong. I just wouldn't give him priority over anyone.

Yep. Perfect injury fill in. Can play anywhere and not look out of place, for short stretches at least. I don’t want him on any line full time but happy to plug him in anywhere when a hole opens up.

As a backup, if Gorton decides to trade Strome and can’t get Danault, I’d look at Wennberg as a 2/3C to combo with Chytil. He’s solid defensively and probably gets a short term deal. 26 years old.

Yeah I’ve said this a bazillion times and True Blue always fights me on it. There is no room for Buch here. He’s behind Panarin, Lafreniere, Kakko and Kravtsov long term, and Kreider has a high paid spot on the third line already. What, is Buch gonna be relegated to the third line at $5.5m a season too? No thanks. Especially after he cooled down substantially as the season went on.

Finally, Buch as an asset is valuable. He almost fetched the 8OA from Edmonton which would have been Zegras. I’m still pumping the concept that we should try to sell him to Florida for Lundell.
