Strome's weaknesses are why the organization is looking to replace him.

It's just that the opportunity didn't arise this offseason for a myriad of reasons, and keeping him around was a far preferable option to letting him go for nothing. My only beef is that we gave him 2 years instead of 1.

And replacing him is fine. But someone here was talking about simply not qualifying him and losing him for nothing in free agency. That's foolish

Gaborik was putting up 40 goals and leading teams in scoring that featured other top scorers such as Vinny Prospal, Brandon Dubinsky, and a past his prime Brad Richards. Why compare him to a guy like Strome who’s a second liner ONLY because of the player he played most frequently with?

Because Gaborik is Gaborik.

He probably had a much larger hand in the Rangers losing to the Kings in 2014. The best scorer on the Rangers who played and practiced against Henrik and some of the other core guys like Staal, & Girardi. So you can bet he shared tendencies, weaknesses, etc. Sometimes you gotta pay guys their due. People probably don't think about things like that too often, but Gaborik ripped it up on the way to a Stanley Cup ring. Hats off Gabby. You can't say this about a lot of guys, but Gaborik was worth the contract and trade.

3 games?!?

Brass always stepped up.

I just don't think it's a good comparison at this exact moment in time.

I hope since he's locked in with us he keeps progressing, and I could see the comparison if he continues to play better. If he adds some clutch he'll be quite the important player for us.

You don't need a defense filled with 6 clones of Adam Fox (even if that would be the dream.) If you aren't noticeable and keep play moving in the right direction, thats a GOOD thing. I would sign up for that from Hajek or any of the young D right now.

Hajek's issue is outside of his short stint in 2018-19, he hasn't been good. he hasn't been Vanilla, he's been straight up licorice.
That wasn’t what I was trying to say.
A defenseman that doesn’t get noticed isn’t vanilla at all. That guy is probably playing stellar defense. I think we’d agree that if Hajek were that guy, he’s golden. And as you say, he hasn’t been very good. (Aside from when he first came up, I think. And he was pretty sheltered then).
Anyhow, hopefully he can put it together going forward.

My stance on Strome softened when he got a 2 year deal. I assumed coming off a near PPG pace he’d command more money and a much longer deal. I guess flat caps will do that.

I want him traded for the assets to acquire a Lundell like long term center but if that wasn’t available this deadline, he now has another tradable contract so try again this coming deadline. In the meantime he can buy us some time.

Del Zotto is kind of an amusing reminder that in 09-10 we had so few players even resembling an offensive-minded defenseman that we pushed a flawed 19 year old into that role...

And he didn't even develop into that type of defenseman ultimately.

And we passed on Cam Fowler because we also had Sanguinetti in the system...

We are talking about Strome as if he is paid like Brassard was at the same stage in their careers. He isn't.

5.52% vs 7.25%

Strome isn't overpaid. He isn't blocking us from signing our FAs. There's a huge difference between knowing his limitations and flat out acting like he's a 4th liner
I don’t think anyone minds Strome at his current salary and term, though. The worry was we end up in a Tyler Johnson-Tampa situation. But I, for one, am fine with things as-is.

I’m totally fine with Strome as the 2C but longer term we’ll need a strong 2-way 3C to be legit contenders.

thanks i didn’t say any of this lol

wow. K'Andre The Giant. Didn't know he was that big.

Gotta wonder if he's going to use a longer stick. With his speed, size and reach... that's going to cover a lot of ice in a very short amount of time.

Really good looking pick. Digging Alexis' outfit that's a good throwback look.
