Sure, but they didn’t need both; and while they are proven as bodies, they aren’t proven effective. They are replacement level players.

Compared to a year ago, they lost Skjei, Staal, Day and Rykov. They added Johnson, Bitetto, Miller and Reunanen.

Jack Johnson and Tony Bitetto are both awful and neither should be in the NHL.

Then hopefully Tarmo or K’Andre do what they need to do so we won’t need to see either of them.

Not directed at you, but if anyone thinks that this org won’t give K’Andre ice over Johnson if he outplayed him is f***ing nutso. Everyone from the front office down has a massive hard on for the guy and if he’s good enough to play, he will play.

So you are saying that we really need Miller to hit. Reunanen hitting would be a nice bonus too.

There's no guarantee either Miller or Reunanen will be in the NHL this year. Johnson and Bitetto have NHL experience and their acquisition reminds me of McQuaid a few years ago. Sure, he was a trade acquisition, but the reason for acquiring him was similar.

Not sure guys like Nikita Nesterov, Joakim Ryan or Jon Merrill would have been better to the point where this fanbase would have been happy.

Honest question for the general user. I've noticed on this site in particular that many of you "seem" to know about other players. My question is, where do you find the time to watch other teams players in addition to our own? That's like watching all 162 Yankee games. How do you find the time?

I can't be bothered to watch other players other than our own, save for guys like McDavid or Mackinnon, etc.

Or do you not actually watch them and just skip to looking at their analytics?

A couple of ways I’ll do this:
- Watch other teams who play in a later time zone as well as my own.
- Watch other teams whenever your team has a day off.

Someone who works an avg amount of hrs and loves hockey should be able to do both of those completely fine

Staal was sheltered more than Johnson last year, and I would say that both guys were better than Smith by a significant margin. If we are basing it on last year's performance, even Marc Staal was solid. Some of the stats about being on the right side of the puck are a byproduct of DeAngelo's offense, but the question is how much?

The latent concern is who plays next to Trouba for 20 a night at 5v5 or do you find a way to distribute the minutes across different situations? IE Johnson as a primary PK option, and Key getting 5v5 minutes.

It'll be interesting to see how things unfold.

Interesting. I love the Rangers first, so I really have no interest in watching anyone else outside of that. Playoffs sure, but random weeknight games during the regular season, no. I feel dirty watching other teams.

94% of posters here are unpaid scouts. I speak to Gorton at least twice a day. I’m the guy who convinced him to pick Lafrenière on draft day.

I would hope anyone spending that much time watching other players would be compensated at least. Lot of armchair GMs.

There are probably a few posters who do watch other teams as much as they say they do. Then there are plenty of pretenders who just before went on Hockeydb or another site to look up stats or mention names they heard sometime on the NHL Tonight.

Here’s a thing. Last season before the injury Staal at $5.7m and his legacy with Rangers was losing his roster spot to Hajek. He was only able to get it it back after the injury because Hajek was struggling and Skjei got moved.

Then what so special about Johnson in comparison? Minimal contract and no legacy. I’m pretty sure that there will be absolutely no issues from the front office or coaching staff perspective to sit JJ if one of the prospects were to show they have a better game. The team’s goal for the upcoming season (among others) is that one of our LD prospects is able to gain a roster spot (as opposed to say strengthening the LD position for a deep playoff run). They want prospects to earn the spot while also not making it extremely difficult of a task.

Given the salaries most scouts make it is better to be an unpaid scout and have another job than being a paid scout.

I mean my point isn’t that I wanted another depth dman. My point is I would have rather had the cap space. The internal options are no worse than Johnson at this point.

When looking at young dmen like Miller the measure isn’t whether or not he sucks less than jj it is whether Miller is ready for the nhl. If a year in the ahl is best for his development it doesn’t matter if he’s better than Johnson. His development is the important thing it’s not just about this year

My major concern with KeAndre is that even if he appears ready for the NHL this season it might not be best for his development trajectory to have him start in the NHL right away. Players that can get by purely on physical tools can develop bad habits if rushed.

If he truly forces his way in, sure, but otherwise I'd want to give him no more NHL games than is allowed with the contract sliding a year (If that applies in this case, which im not certain it does)
