It's really weird. Somehow he had more approval after his first year than his second year here.
No we didn't.

The "accusations" just shifted from not being an acceptable 3rd liner - benefited from unsustainable shooting % to not an acceptable 2nd liner - benefited from playing with Panarin.

A. It sounds that the market is such that even teams who had issues attracting UFA's shouldn't have this problem this year.
B. If Strome sees only interest to be signed on a cheap, he might decide to take a short deal and bet on himself on the open market next year
C. Why would the Rangers take back a bad contract in this environment to help other teams to take Strome if the idea to move him in the first place is to create cap room to IMPROVE?

For 'C':

I didn't say a 'bad' contract. It's just re-allocating cap to a location where it could be used better. For example, would Ottawa trade Anismov back to the Rangers? They actually SAVE cap space, the Rangers get a 3C for a season. Perhaps the Sens also send one of their 2nd rounder this year.

TThe 'Strome carried Panarin' crowd is a known entity and decidedly finite in number.
From the pro-Strome crowd, I would like for you to find just one post that even alludes to the hyperbole. I bet you are looking for a very, very long time and cannot find an answer.

Maybe, but his likelyhood of hitting said ceiling is pretty low.

Turcotte OTOH Ive never understood the fuss about.
Byfields skating size defense and skill are elite. Listened to a podcast where a scout said he is a once in 15-20 years type prospect and compared him to malkin. The floor is lower and the timeframe is longer but he’s a year younger than AL and is already a Hayes level center IMO.

Someone explain how Panarin had his best season playing with 2 unqualified linemates.

I'm not even going to look, because most people have a memory and engaging in a dialogue with you is akin to the Labors of Hercules where one wastes a lot of time not accomplishing anything at all.

I'd rather ice a top 6 of: Laf--Zib--Kakko and Panarin--Chytil--Buchnevich. Both lines would be defensively sound. Both lines would be possession machines. Both lines have playmakers and shooters. By mid-season, I honestly think it would be among the best 1A/1B situations in the league. There would still be work to do in the bottom six, but still.
Where's Kreider? What has Chytil shown that he is ready for such an assignment?

So no, you are utterly incapable of backing up your ludicrous claim.

New coach? New system? A more offense-minded D squad? A much better ranked PP? Natural development? better support from the other top line? Where…to….start…?

Sorry I misread in your original post but I think the point remains that the Rangers wouldn't want to take back a contract that at minimum in excess of Strome's qualifying offer especially if it's improves the team marginally (if that). IMHO 34 yo Anisimov and his contract would fall into this category.

agreed, I don't know why we don't qualify Strome.
Then we give him the reasonable doubt to have a similar season, let Chytil develop 1 more year and see where he goes and be able to maybe trade from a stronger position if we want, seeing all our kids develop for 1 more year.
Do JD/Gorton see a buyout coming for Wenneberg and he would be cheaper?
