Considering @Edge has said that while the Rangers and Buffalo have talked about Eichel, the Rangers refuse to discuss 1OA in a deal, it’s not happening.
Agreed. Maybe in the future they can revisit it but the chances of it happening anytime soon is slim to none. Price is way too high right now

Based on Vegas' window, I'm not sure they want to sit on that MAF deal. $12m to goalies is insane.

Also, the Marleau contract was 35+ so Carolina had to take the entire cap hit even though he was bought out. That's a negative for most teams beyond what Staal was/is. Plus Staal can play in Detroit and probably return a late round pick at the deadline as a 'vet'.

If I were a team like Chicago, I'd say I want:

MAF @ 60% cap hit + LV 1st '20

or

MAF @ 100% cap hit + LV 1st '20 + NJ 2nd '21

That's reasonable the more I think about it. Low 1st from Vegas as well. No one has tried to talk hockey with me before so this is a new experience for me.

Where he's going to have to learn the rest of the game to become a consistent productive contributor. It'll take some time but I do think he's got a chance to be a quality mid-six player
I think that's fair and I agree.

I agree, and Buffalo will loss leverage once the season starts if they struggle at the beginning and Eichel gets frustrated and asks out.

I think the only way Strome has any value at all on a multi-year to other teams is if the AAV is close to what he is making now. I don't see that shaking out.

I could see $3.75-$4.25m depending on the term. Maybe a 3 year deal for $4m per season, and to me, if I was a GM of a team who had issues attracting UFA's and in need of some offensive depth, I'd be interested. That's complimentary money for a guy who can play RW or center, put up some points and play the PP and PK. He's also 27.

I'm not in favor of Strome being a long-term piece here in NY but as a stop-gap for a team like Ottawa or Buffalo or a team looking to spread out their offensive talent like Dallas he could hold some value. It's possible one of those teams would want to send back a contract (say a slightly overpaid 4th liner or depth d-man) but that's particulars that could be worked out

Lots of teams have guys they aren't qualifying. The teams with cap space are just biding their team to see what players shake loose. Why trade for Strome if he'll be available as a UFA at a lower AAV? If the Rangers end up qualifying, they can still trade for him later.

And if he makes to through arbitration the Rangers can still trade him should they sign that deal. They might have to retain to get any value yet that still seems like a better idea than letting him just walk.

Rangers must have some possible reason to want to keep the 3.2M qualifier off their cap at the moment.

I feel like this is the time frame when you hear about a bunch of teams talking and guy on the block and it sounds exciting!

Except all the teams are also kinda waiting to see what happens with the draft, RFA, UFA, etc. So there might be some stuff close to a deal but teams also sitting on it because they're not actually rready to make a move and are at most just kinda hoping someone else does

I guess Fleury's NTC list is the 10 teams with any cap space. I bet Carolina makes the trade for 50% retained with the 2nd and another pick, but I don't think the 1st is in play.

Yzerman should see if he can be the middle man in that deal. Get the 2nd for Fleury at half and see if anyone will will offer an asset, even a warm body for his roster, for Fleury at $1.75m.

Namestnikov at 4 million and with less term got us all of a 4th round pick. I don’t see Strome beating that if on a multiyear at 4 million. And that’s if we’re lucky and don’t have to trade a pick just to get out of the contract.

Well he comes off as a really nice kid haha.

I actually think hes a pretty safe bet to play in the NHL. He's big and he can skate, at the very least there is the makings of a better version of Brian Boyle.

I think the offensive potential, while its there and legitimate, is a bit overstated. He's got the whole Rick Nash "too much junior" in his game thing going on. His individual shot rates were not great either and he isn't a dummy, but I wouldn't call him a high level thinker, that alone kind of docks the potential down a notch or two for me.

The OHL was basically a glorified shinny league this year.
This post basically hits the nail on the head regarding Byfield. I strongly doubt he’ll be a perennial 80 point plus guy. Scouts/fans drool over themselves when they see big centers like that all the time.

Namestnikov showed very little in his time in NY. Strome has shown much more.

Speaking of Namestnikov, who would be opposed to bringing him back as a depth player, say for $2m?

Strome showed even less before he was paired with Panarin. Namestnikov didnt get that opportunity.

I'm still kind of surprised around the lack of moves league wide.

Just too many moving parts I think. With Free Agency coming up and lots of RFAs untendered it's creating too many options for GMs. If AP had signed with the Blues things MIGHT be a little different.
