Staple’s projection on Kane package is a pair of 2nd round picks and a 5th to the brokering team based on info he’s heard. That’s from his just released podcast. Not what it’s 100% going to be, just his own guess based on his reporting.

Granted, this might last all of 5 shifts like the Panarin-Tarasenko marriage lasted. But initial reports are Panarin and Kane playing alongside Trocheck.

Tarasenko is kinda the odd ball out. He's a shooter who goes into traffic and needs a playmaker, which neither Zibanejad and Kreider truly is.

IMO this is different from stuff of the past because drury clearly isn't all in on just going for big names (last year he didn't) and isn't selling the farm to do it. He wasn't even going to go for Kane until DOLAN THOUGHT the offer was too good to pass up
Duly corrected.

I think you could look at putting Kane with Panarin two ways:

Obviously they will want to try Kane with Panarin to rekindle the magic. After all its one of the reasons he wanted to come to NY. You give him that shot to play with Breadman again. They could be dynamic for sure.

The other bit is it allows the Mika line to match up against the others best, although Tank will need to play a more assertive game defensively. All things considered, hes a bigger body and more well suited to play that role than Kane, in addition to the offense he provides.

Doing so allows the Bread-Kaner line to match up against the other teams 2nd or 3 line, which could be dangerous. But it puts a lot of the onus on Trocheck (and also Bread) to make sure they are paying attention defensively. Kane has never been a good defender and no one should expect him to be. Its really about managing the puck with that line and not getting crazy with the puck. (that may be hard at times)

Im not sure you are losing or gaining much by switching Kane and Tank. Although, Tank could really benefit from the playmaking ability and cross ice feeds from Panarin rather than rely on Kreids and Mika to supply that. (they really dont)

To me, the key to the playoffs will be the depth provided by both of those moves. The kid line and the 4th could eat up some of the opposition that isnt as deep.

But as we get further along into the deadline - damn, the East is stacked and the top 4 or 5 teams are adding depth as well...

You forgot "cant score". He'll fit right in when they outshoot teams 40-25 on the road and lose 4-1
Oh yeah, I'm not worried about that pickup - he's more of the same for them. He's a corsi merchant basically. Good player to have in your bottom six but he's more of the same for them.

Just thought he's basically exactly what I think of when I think of a Carolina forward.

So with the 2nds that went to Arizona we won't have a 2nd rounder until 2099 but I guess it's not a first or a Cuylle or a Sykora/Berard. So 2024 and 2027 2nd? or 2023 and 2024 2nd?

This is what I’d do if we’re forcing Panarin and Kane together.
Same. You try to create a middle six that can matchup against bottom pairs and outscore their defensive lapses (Igor willing), and you have a first and fourth line that handle the checking assignments (and are talented enough to score too).

Won't likely happen, but I'd rather have lines with clear assignments and strengths than a mismash.

That would be great if no prospects are included as well.
