Just pack it up and go home if it's Tocchet. The dude has done absolutely jack shit in Arizona, and they've been one of the most painfully boring, mediocre teams in the NHL in the last four years.

that bad eh!
Expect some Coyotes like Bunting and Hmaljerson on the ufa list if so

Couldn't agree more.

As things are right now, we just need to enable someone like say Filip Chytil or K'Andre Miller and the likes to show some emotions on the ice -- without knowing that if they did, they would be chased around the ice by Wilson, Dillon, Chara and the likes while NOBODY would back them up. And they way we have been exposed, nothing short of an over correction will do.

This is the best argument for bringing in a guy like Reaves or Clifford or even Geersten. They dont have to play everyday, but your top players knowing they can play a little more aggressive, and show some emotion on the ice, because theres a tough guy or two who will back them up, is huge. Especially for a young team trying to find an identity.

Tocchet is not my first choice but is it really that bad of a choice? Everyone is clamoring for Sullivan, including myself, and Tocchet was an assistant with him for both Penguins Cups. And it doesnt seem like he was playing with a full deck in Arizona. Chayka was a clown and that roster was pretty bare bones. @bobbop can speak more to that though im sure

It would be a bad choice. He really hasn't demonstrated anything as a head coach that leads me to believe he's the guy to help this team take the next step.

Look at this resume and then ask: if he wasn't Rick Tocchet, would he really be a candidate?

Pretty confident it will be Gallant. IMO Tocchet is the backup if he says no.

I’m hopeful Gallant is the choice but it would not surprise me if Tocchet ends up being the choice.

Would absolutely be a Sather move to go with the worse coach but because he has won cups as an assistant that gives him an advantage over Gallant

Tocchet was a big part of the Chayka & Tocchet Show. The only reason Tocchet is even considered is name recognition, he has done nothing noteworthy as a head coach. The most positive take if he is signed is that he is a placeholder puppet until the real target is available in a couple of years... but what's the point? That would be 5 years and counting of sub par coaching.

There's some editorializing going on in those tweets

He obviously had a 2nd interview if it's being reported. I think the "its down to him and Gallant" part of that is opinion and not fact.

I agree with your point but we have more than a few of these guys. That entire second line we iced of Panarin-Strome-Blackwell would get shut down in the playoffs imo. Panarin's job isn't to win loose pucks but he would benefit from a center and right wing who can.
Panarin was amazing in the playoffs as a Blue Jacket, no worries about him at all in the playoffs going forward.

Blackwell should be nowhere near the top 6 anyway, that was DQ's fault. He got pushed around in a random game, could never stay on his feet, he would be put through the ice in the playoffs. That other winger on that line needs to be a guy who can forecheck, cycle effectively, win board battles and can create space.

Blackwell hit a lucky run of shooting and stuff but he was never a fit on that line aside from the asinine comparisons to Fast, who actually could win board battles and create space and forecheck, the only thing they actually had in common was they were both smaller players who shot right handed. That's it.

If Strome returns, that RW needs to be Kakko or Kravtsov (or Buch if he's still here). Hell, even Gauthier would be a better fit than Blackwell, he'd at least be worth a shot.

they were boring and mediocre long before Tocchet. If we hire him, just gonna hope he was forced to coach that way due to the roster. Tippet also had the Coyotes play that way.

We’ll have gone from front runner Gallant to front runner Tocchet in a matter of 2 weeks and I wouldn’t even bat an eye lash.
