What the ducks did with Gibson was the smartest I’ve seen a goalie situation handledShesterkin is no where near any of those guys.

I personally believe that 5 years is worst case scenario. I think their target date of 3 years was right on the money. But if you tell people 3 and it not 3 exactly there’s no breathing room. There’s no room for error on the part of the league. This way, if the league says 5 years and the cap grows in under 5 the league looks like heroes. Well all get the same Rah Rah speech about how the NHL has bounced back stronger then ever thanks to the resolve of our ownership of teams and blah blah blah.... the bean counters know exactly how long it’s going to take. And I don’t see salaries staying long or stagnant in the NHL or any professional sport for 5 years. A year or 2 after the lock out you saw teams starting to hand out wild salaries. The NHL had excellent growth in television ratings during this thing. We should be fully back to normal by the star of next season. Call me an optimist if you want, but I still think the original target date of 3 years is right on the money. Rangers absolutely still have to be smart with their cap thoughIf the cap is flat for 5 years then the players are going to start seeing some reduced salaries.
It would not be surprising if the owners decide behind closed doors to put an unofficial max salary in place.
Every team has cap problems.
Maybe the teams and NHLPA will agree to more compliance buyouts that dont impact the cap for each team.
I dunno if the players will have to accept that tehy're gonna get screwed here or what. they've operated under the assumption of cap go up but it's not going to now and guys like Zibanejad etc might have to take smaller contracts than they think they coudl demand relative to their peers (guys who signed contracts with teams that expected a cap increase to make the iffy contract now look fine later in terms of percentage of cap it's taking up)
I don’t think his agent would advise it. This is basically his retirement deal coming off the best hockey played in his career. Not going to risk being injured and losing millionsWould Mika take a shorter deal to get paid twice over?? It’s something that may be a real possibility for the next 2-3 UFA classes..
I still say I think you gotta explore something to get Kreider to waive for Seattle. You have to anticipate here that Zib, Kakko, Laf and Fox are all players that will be getting ~8 mil AAV. Sprinkle in some of the wild cards and the guys already here. You just cannot pay your 3rd LW 6.5 on a flat cap with all these guys here

Silly boy, only Chicago can circumvent the cap and get away with it. If the Devil's got docked a 1st rounder, the Rangers may actually lose an entire drafts worth of picks if they tried to make up an equipment allergy for Kreider. If we really need to get rid of Kreider at some point, we'll just make up some bunk ass reason he can't play.
I don't think that'll happen yet.
I still wonder what quack DR they found to make that diagnosis. They must have found him running adds in the back of MAD magazine or penthouse offering fugazzi remedies to whatever ails you out of his strip mall officeSilly boy, only Chicago can circumvent the cap and get away with it. It would absolutely not benefit the rangers to wait until the trade deadline. Mika has a nmc and can scuttle any deal, so if you wait till the deadline he may decide he doesn’t want to move until end of year and then we lose him for no assets.Surely, however, there’s also the unknown economics leftover from Covid.. It might behoove both side to wait until the trade deadline for an extension.. If I were in Drury’s shoes, this is what I would do..
Neither Kakko nor Laf have come close to earning that type of contract yet. Kakko has 1 year left on his ELC and will have to explode offensively next year to earn more than a bridge deal.
Even if the Rangers wanted to expose Kreider (which they likely don't), and assuming he agreed to waive (which he likely wouldn't), there's no guarantee that Seattle would take him. The scenario in which all of this happens is as close to zero as it's likely to get.
Kreider and Trouba both have 3 years left on their NMCs. They need to play well until then. We will manage the cap in the interim.
I don't know where he'd fit but I wonder if DeAngelo is still going to be bought out, since that whole thing went down as part of Gorton running stuff.
Crazy thought - if Leafs lose game 7, do they look to move Matthews? Leafs ARE dumb…

their fans appear down on Marner. Any and all of those guys in Toronto would likely cost a fortune yet if the lose tonight, what direction can they go in?
Truly and utterly ridiculous.
Posts like these, and McDavid trade proposals, are why I peruse this place a lot less in the off season.
How many coaches will be needed for him ? Will 4 be the magic bullet for him......NEVER happening...move on from that thinking . That ship has sailed . He is what he is .Let’s see what a new coach can do for him. A think a lot of our veterans got tired of whatever Quinn was trying to sell so I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and a clean slate under a new coach.

Marner would be the antithesis of the gritty player that Dolan and I assume Drury want
Like the Krieder discussion the ADA comments are a waste of time. People just don't get it. The guy was sent packing because his behavior was detrimental to the team. He became like a disease and the locker room needed to be sanitized. Nothing is going to change that and bringing him back would blow up the locker room. That is the last thing this team needs. We need some leadership not some punk stirring trouble. Move on from ADA. Its over!I think it’s already been reported that nothing will change regarding DeAngelo’s status. That was weeks ago at this point though, so maybe as Drury settles in, things change.
