MMA fighters have gotten the procedure done and returned to fighting. That's about as contact as it gets...
1 has.
And 1 guy that did karate but the surgery didnt work for him and he cant twist like he used to. Read the article.
Big difference between hockey and MMA too. Hockey you go out 82 games per year plus playoffs while MMA guys might have 4 25 minute fights per year.

MMA fighters spend an un holy amount of time on their back/necks when grappling during training and sparring.

2 of them have had the surgery, one of them is still in recovery.

There have been more though.

The bottom line is you can't just dismiss it and pretend he will never play again or whatever, but you obviously have the weigh that risk and also be educated enough as to what the cap implications will be IF he does have long term issues and how LTIR would work for it. It just seems like it's now becoming trendy to dismiss him as an option and hate on him as a player. I think people are forgetting just how good he is. Saying that I would not at all advocate trading a kakko or laf for him especially with the injury, but the addition shouldn't just be ignored. There was a time that kucherov hip surgery would have been career ending, or pitchers with TJ issues were done. Sure this would be a risk, but it has to be a calculated risk.

Realistically, what is Goodrow going to get in a flat cap open market ?? 2 to 2.25 for 3-4 years. That’s over a 100% raise. To me that’s a no brainer. The guy is worth every cent. The money being spent on him is far better then the money we spend on Georgiev from an asset management stand point. You think that would be an untraceable contract? Worst case scenario he falls off a cliff in year 3 the buyout they would have to do is peanuts

Might be good for them to avoid that contract. He seems to have peaked

They'll never have a good team for any prolonged length of time if players don't wanna stay there. I'd take Seth Jones every day of the week. His playoffs last year were norris like, this year was such a crappy year for Columbus with Torts benching anyone that was any good, players leaving, etc etc etc that i doubt he wanted to be there this season and his play likely reflected that.

So, for team USA - which has a barely AHL caliber roster - Blackwell is the 4C. Kinda funny.

I wonder if a team like Minnesota would love someone like Hartman in favor of a cheaper alternative. He’s a 4th liner there. He’s be a nice low cost alternative.

Khaira is another one and he is a RFA.

Nosek and Goodrow are probably my guys in UFA depending on cost.

I think Hartman was re-signed pretty recently (like in season) and gets third line minutes often. They seem to like him. I’d love him though. Goodrow has to be one of the prime targets.

Edit: “On April 22, 2021, Hartman signed a three-year, $5.1 million contract extension with the Wild.”

So like yesterday.

I would say that any pitcher who has TJ issues is still a career ender. It's only a matter of time it seems these days. Then 1-2 years off and they're never the same. Of course this is unrelated to Eichel.

Sure, Eichel is a fine player. He's Brad Richards 2.0. He's a great Robin to someone's Batman on a contender. The Kessel to the Crosby if you will.
I sure as hell don't want to trade the moon for 10 mil a year Robin. Add the broken neck and I'd rather not trade at all. The fact that LTIR might even be a consideration would basically mean NYR is potentially trading serious assets for a player who might not play, thereby losing assets for nothing.
