The Rangers could only be so lucky to have such hard nosed players like *checks notes* Mat Barzal, Jordan Eberle, and Josh Bailey...
Nelson and Lee are stiff on the puck So Is palmeri. Their entire 4th line finishes checks. Pelech, mayfield etc. They have their finesse guys for sure but the isles aren’t cream puffs as much as it pains me to say it.

I can't believe I exist in the same universe as Pierre Mcguire, let alone Canadiens supporters who endorse Pierre for their GM job.

Much like they wanted a top pair defenseman, they will likely pursue a number one center this year, win or lose. The problem they have to move a lot of salary this summer.

They do not need a #1 center. In fact, it's probably one of the worst things they could pursue.

These Isles take me back to Torts' Rangers. Physicality and effort throughout but not enough talent to take it all. The difference is that their superstar is 1C while for those Rangers it was Hank. And honestly I would rather take my chances with the King in the net rather than Barzal at 1C.

They have good goaltending too though.

Agreed w this. And count me as someone who doesn't think the Islanders have what it takes to go all the way...but will be interesting to see what the reactions are if they are able to beat Boston.
Don’t think anyone getting past Tampa. Too deep a roster too solid in net. Lethal on the PP. 3 main ingredients you need to go far in playoff hockey.

I think the Avalanche have what it takes to go toe to toe with they talent wise, but that’s where experience is gonna kick in. Tampa has won it all and been in the dance for a long time. Aves are just getting their feet wet.

Savard was a very low key underrated move for the lighting. I don’t think people realize what a grizzled Vet shutdown D man is worth in a 7 game series. Especially one as battle tested and playoff proven as savard

Do you guys think we will have cap issues after 22/23? We will have a lot of signings to do in the next 2 years. If Kakko and Laf have big seasons in the next year, that will affect their upcoming contracts a lot.

As far as I know, the only restriction to re-acquiring a player is if that player is already on the books with retained salary. Technically it should work but who knows at this point with the NHL? They just flip a coin.

Almost certainly not allowed. The league already said they won’t let teams stash players in Vegas since they are exempt and this is the same concept.

Yes but the NHL is not really consistent when it comes to circumvention. I doubt it will be happening anyway though.

that would likely be circumvention. nhl would prob come down hard on that one.

Think that there is a significant risk for this. Why?

It’s basically an agreement under the table. The NHL cleared Orpik-gate. Washington has him on the books for 5.5. They trade him away, he is bought out, and resigns with Washington for 1m. What did the NHL look at? There were no talks between any of the parties beforehand, ie Washington didn’t know if BO would be bought out, if BO would resign with them etc. There were supposedly some negotiations with other teams etc etc etc.

I am not 100% which of the facts were actually established and what the NHL actually looked at, but the above was the media report, and if theses facts made the difference the OP set up wouldn’t pass.

I fully agree with AK though, the NHL hasn’t been very consistent. Toronto got all kind of set ups going...

I think if the trade was "laundered" through another team it could work. But i'm pretty sure if you're trading exclusively with one team, the NHL would crack down on it.

I’m not a big fan of the Kreider contract, but we really don’t have anyone else to replace his speed which is something we sorely lack

Laf still has 2 yrs on his entry level deal so I’m not gonna worry about that Kreider contract till then

plus doesn’t the no trade expire ?
