We need to sign Blake Coleman and have him choose 27 as his number so I can finally buy a jersey with my name on it and not have it be a jersey foul.
I think Nils will be our next 27

Coleman is good at specific things we need that I'm willing to give up 10 points for and Buchnevich's reasonable contract has one year on it.

you and I both know that 10 points on your on end is a stretch and dishonest as a whole.

both 5 seasons, same GP in the N and Buch has 70 more points. Closer to 20 more last season than 10...against top deployment.

Kakko and Kravtsov will make that up playing actual minutes.

I know but if you are Florida you would try to lock him up this offseason. If they had a long run he might of signed. It might put some doubt in his head and he might play next year without an extension and try free agency.

One playoff sweep wouldn't make a difference. Their team has finally gotten over the hump and looks to be in the playoffs consistently for a while. That's still a better option than the Rangers, as of this moment. That could change a year from now, but likely not enough to make him leave them for us, unless he has a burning desire to play here.

So the new guy in as the President. The boss who has seen the Columbus recent track record when it comes to drafting and had joined a team that had some success in drafting. The same J.D. who signed off on the trading up for Braden Schneider and then explained to the Rangers staff on why you need to draft those types of players. Fast forward to the 6 minute mark if you don’t want to wait any you have any doubts that J.D. is not in control of the team that he is President of.

Still, that organization is easily the most regressed team in the entire league - directly thanks to a horrible signing JD made. Right?

I just think it’s so backwards how we value these guys. If they hit the PCs with an attitude and throw out some cliches they are loved for life. Torts easily had more backers than AV after AVs first full season in NY. Under Torts it looked like we could play 50 games in a row against Boston or Washington without winning at times. We were totally destroyed, 3 shot period after another. AV comes in and takes us to a Cup final, being one of the highest scoring teams in the league. Not saying that AV is some saint, especially right now I don’t think he is adopting that well to what it takes to win and the man-man D is something I am very sceptical of.

Results matter, and management should be held accountable for them. Not how they sound in the PC.

I think the odds are he stays in Florida but I dont think its 100%. In his 8 years they have made the playoffs 3 times including last year when everyone made it and have never got out if the first round. They have a 10 mill dollar boat anchor contract for the next 5 years and he isn't even starting in net the last 2 games. You have his extension and Huberdeau's coming up after his. Hornqvist is a year older. Yandle has 2 more years and Stralman has one. Sure Ekblad will be back next year but he wasn't preventing the sweep.

I dont think its a slam dunk anymore because he will get his money from anyone. Why not see if you can put yourself in a better situation to win a cup?

I

No. He was fired and is allowed to pursue any job he wanted to.

And the Rangers would have to pay his full contract unless there was a buyout or out clause in the writing.

If he resigned and tried taking the job, then the Rangers would've gotten compensation from the Blue Jackets, or they could've blocked it.
Not exactly.

Columbus had to get permission from the Rangers. Davidson was still under contract.

Terms, financial and perhaps otherwise, had to be negotiated. For example, when Bill Armstrong became the GM of the Coyotes last year, he couldn’t participate in their draft.

Dolan was certainly relieved of some (or perhaps most) of his financial obligation.

JD got another team to run.

And we get a double dose of Drury.

That's the reason firing JD and Gorton was nuts. I doubt not making the playoffs was the real reason they got axed, or even that the team mid-rebuild was a bit lopsided. Any reasonable person understand this. It's like cooking it takes the time it takes.

  • Young players need to mature
  • Roster balance issues fixed
  • A competent head coach found
  • A good team wide system implemented
  • System needs to become second nature with the players
  • Playoff experience has to be gained
  • and so on
All this won't happen overnight. This is the reason I thought shooting for the playoffs this season was unrealistic and futile. Basic pieces were obviously missing. Teams like Tampa and Colorado took time to get ready.
. This.

Dolan was as patient as a lot of posters here. They want everything to happen now. Instant gratification.

JD knew. He was talking about being patient from the first day he got here. He knew this team was still a year away.

Hopefully Drury uses his leverage to stick to the script.

I'm not taking any team this season at face value. This was a fantasy hockey season. 56 games and you play the same teams all season, it's not reality. Panthers are gonna flame out of this series and then things are gonna go back to normal next season when they don't play CBJ, Detroit, Dallas and Chicago 8 times each.

To be fair, you can make the argument that signing Panarin and re-signing Kreider were both more instant gratification moves. It's harder to talk about lack of fan patience if patience wasn't exhibited in full by the front office in the first place. They got the ball rolling on increased expectations by spending $125 million on those two players in their late 20s. Hard to blame the owner whose money you're chucking out the window, or the fans, for changing their expectations as the rebuild progressed.

yes the crazy thing is that Dolan should have never have hired JD if he didn't want to have some patience with it. From day one that's what JD said he was going to do

Maybe he oversold the need for patience a bit, but still...why hire a guy and then be mad he does what he said he was going to do

Good post. JD & Gorton themselves were sending mixed signals about the rebuild. The Trouba/Panarin/Kreider contracts dont exactly scream "patience". Not to mention letting Fast walk so he wouldnt block any of the young players from getting more ice time. only for that ice time to be given to Colin Blackwell.

Thank you. The most vocal critics this year, myself among them, were leery of exactly this. Kicking the development can down the road while relying on the highly paid vets to somehow try to sneak the team into the playoffs.

Complaining about Lafreniere and Kakko's ice time and production has been interpreted as the desire for instant gratification by many when in reality it's exactly the opposite.

Exactly what I think. Its hard to say 'patience' when the team is now on year 4 of no playoffs when they have panarin and kreider on heavy deals and Zib looking for a new one soon. How long does 'patience' last..

Looking at the games in the playoffs so far, the rangers still look so far away from how these teams play. The coach was a disaster and I was fine with gmjm until he seemed like he wasnt willing to depart from quinn.. I'll never know how a college coach got the job.

The college and pro games are so different, Quinn was a bad a bad hire from day 1
