The only people who thought Pionk was poor were a decidedly vocal minority.

I am with you on the energy level, but I am thinking that he is more like Kevin Spacey in House of cards. I.e. interviewing ex agency people. Creating an off the books emergency fund in the Caribbean. Would definitely not be surprised if we started to see headlines like ‘The Islanders mourns Lou Lamoriello after fatal subway accident”, “Barzal claims he is as surprised as everyone else after positive PED test, appeals season long suspension”, “Jack Hughes and George Parros linked to Jeffery Epstein’s pedophile ring”, ‘Police confirms: They have not heard from Wilson’s kidnappers after initial ransom demand, investigator question IRA connection”.

Buchnevich and Strome will be cap casualties if the Rangers bring in a center. There is no reason at all to spend big on anything else as far as cap goes. They are loaded with wingers and defense

They jets fans love pionk, however they were looking for defensemen at the deadline because physically he gets knocked around too easily. They love his offense and puck moving ability and he does try to be physically active but when the game gets tighter in the playoffs he gets exposed. Basically the same concerns we had with him when he was playing top minutes here before he was traded

I'd be really surprised if the Rangers didn't make a call on Zib this summer. If they get Eichel then of course Zib is gone but I gotta think that they're going to try and capitalize on him having a reasonable year left on his deal if they feel like they want to move on. Letting that come down to the trade deadline like it did with Kreider seems like an obviously poor decision.

Would think that any team adding Zib might want to talk extension before the deal as well.

Yup. If Zibby is dealt, expect a similar situation to Mark stone, where the team acquiring him announces they agree to a new big contract right after the trade. The only way Zibby accepts to waive his NMC is if his agent and said team have already agreed in principle to a long term extension before the trade even goes down IMO. Otherwise I don’t think he waives the clause

He's not a very good offensive defenseman. During his time in WPG he is 90/174 in 5v5 pts/60 among defenseman with at least 1000 minutes played. Players with similar scoring rates include Cody Ceci, Vladislav Gavrikov, Radko Gudas, Justin Braun, and Brandon Carlo. He has, however, been a pretty good PP specialist.

I think I am more game to sign Danault and re-sign Zibanejad IF Zibanejad will take ~$8-8.5m per season than go for all 3 of Hertl, Danault and Zibenajad.

contrary to what a lot of people might remember here Pionk plays a very aggressive physical game. He was second on the Jets in hits this year (behind Adam Lowry) and led their D. I agree that he’s best a 2RD than a 1RD. To me he’s a pretty good power play option and a good second choice penalty kill option.

Seriously though, JD is responsible for the GM who is responsible for the coach who is responsible for an almost -- unprecedented -- destruction of a promising looking young team. Nobody wants to play there, they have nothing to show for decades of rebuilding.

I don't think JD is a bad prez, and this is only speculation, but Torts attitude towards the Xs and Os is nothing but counterproductive in today's game, and I could easily see CBJ being a contender today with basically any one of a number of 15-20 coaches usually available from time to time. Torts mindset worked before the 05' lockout, but since then it has been contra productive. Surely not resulting in the worst play every year, Torts is excellent at getting his players to play hard and what not, but nevertheless they play a way that hurts them in many areas.

This is an issue NYR has wrestled with back and forth so much. Since Messier brought us a Cup their has been an over belief in that winning it is about wanting it more than anything else, instead of being the organization that is the most professional and just is the best run in the game. Tortorella is a unique coach that just has been totally off-side since 05'. Dave Quinn is just not knowledgeable enough, not even remotely. Having either of those two coach your team is just not a mistake an organization can be afford to make. And those type of mistakes lands at the feet of the president ultimately.

I assume that number is coming from the Athletic article. Dom's numbers are based on UFA market value and a long term contract. He also had Lindgren at 5.6 mil.

Fox isn't getting anything close to 13.7 mil per year, not with a flat cap and him having 3 RFA years left after this contract is up.

At the same time, it is still market-value -- which for example is to established by an arbitrator.

There will of course be oddities while these tools are developed and Lindgren and Fox are probably great examples of that. But to a large extent -- "pedigree" or the lack thereof is the biggest reason for why these differences are so big. Matthews signed a contract at the level Fox' value is suggested. If you take away the background info and look at performance -- it is impossible to come to the conclusion that he is worth twice as much as Fox who basically was a top 3 D the last season. Right?

With that said, what still skews the numbers -- and they are of course skewed -- is short sample size and depth chart situation. Lindgren wouldn't play as much as he did ideally, we had weak depth at LD. No matter how awsome Fox was, doing it one year is one thing doing it 2-3 years in a row is another. If anyone can do it, its him, but there could be some more ups and downs.

Colorado has 23 mil in cap space. They'll need to re-sign or replace Grubauer, but I don't see them having any issues getting them all signed.

Kadri would be a good 3rd line center for us, but he's 31 in October and only has 1 year left on his contract. I'm not sure that he would be a good long term investment. If we could re-sign him to a 3 x 3 contract, maybe, but I doubt he'll be looking to take a pay cut, and he might want more term as well. Even at 4 mil per, that's pricey for a 3rd line center.

I agree. For whatever reason, these series seem extra angry this year. But I will say, I'm not worried about guys like Kakko and Laff finding an extra gear if and when they get there.
