Chycrun would be yet another horrible Rongos move. WE DONT NEED DEFENSE. WE NEED SPEED, SKILL, FLASH, PIZZAZZ!

I hope they steer clear of Chychrun.

Jacob Middleton. That's the LD. Grit, physical, young, affordable. Adds some swagger. He's a throwback that has contoured his game to play in the new NHL. Last season prior to the trade he worked his way up to SJ's top pairing. This season he's done the same thing for Minnesota. He's now paired with Spurgeon. Has the 2nd best Plus minus.

He's the guy.

Motte just went 5 weeks without a point lol.

Arguing about deck chair arrangements on the Titanic anyway but what a weird thing to pick out.

I dont think its that weird. I think Motte is a difference maker. Worth every penny of the $1.3 cap hit.

Funny how you thought we were going to get all of that from Kravtsov lol.
Is "PIZZAZZ" West Coast jive for "PUSASS"?

We need both. A decent , not great right winger and a 3rd pairing left D. Then run with what ya got and see where it settles.

No Patrick Kane thank you.

Which as we know falls on the coaches to impliment a system. The team and tro have already come out in the begining of the year and stated that he didnt know where to go on defense because its a free for all. Nobody knows where to go.

People dont understand that systems make up for players lack of IQ, speed, etc. players know where to go, dont get lost and pick up the right guys. This alone would help defensively and for goaltending.
Valiquette said the other night in between periods that "Hockey players crave structure" I think he was mostly talking about Laf's offensive zone penalty but also could be implying that is one of things missing from this team

How much longer can their run of bad luck last?

why would the Wild trade their top pairing LD?

If the Rangers go for a LD to shore up the blue line that has term left, it would likely be someone like Edmundson. At 50% he would be a better fit to put on the 3rd or second pair and take some PK time away from Lindgren and Miller so the team isnt riding the top 4 too much.

Also, cheaper to acquire as it likely won't take a 1st rounder.

Don’t tell Montreal fans that. They think they’re getting a 1st+Top prospect for him without retention

I wouldn't give up close to a first rounder but hey they fleeced the Panthers and got a first plus for Chiarot.

I'll give Blais some credit here because I think getting hurt before the season started is really affecting his play. You really do want a player like him in your lineup but this is the main reason I would've liked to see Drury pick up a draft pick for him. I just don't think the kid can stay healthy. Now we traded Reaves as well, without Blais we would've had an extra +3 million to spend. Chicago signed Domi for 3 million, Washington signed Dylan Strome for 3.5 million. There were a few nice pieces available

Nay!

What? Why?

Those young talented forwards will never see the roster. And if they do, it'll be third line minutes and next-to-no PP time.

Some people have a real crush on Motte for whatever reason, or just hate on Blais because he was part of the underwhelming return for Buch. Motte’s a nice player. Faster than Blais doesn’t score much more than Blais, far less physical, a better penalty killer, but we already have penalty killers. I think Blais is more valuable on this team, we need 4th liners like him. It’s subjective but certainly an odd thing to fixate on in our situation.

why would the Wild trade their top pairing LD?
Good question. For starters...nobody is untradeable.

Heres 8 reasons
1) They are arguably the most physical team in the league and they just added Reaves to that. They can afford to lose a physical presence to maybe add in another area.
2) They have 8 defenseman under contract with the big club.
3) They are 3rd in the Central. 1pt ahead of the Avs. So they are a potential Playoff team that could be buyers at the deadline. They are pressed against the cap already with $12,743,000 in dead cap space from Parise and Suter buyouts so if they make any moves salary likely to also go out. Middleton comes with a $2.45 Mil cap hit.
4) Dumba is a UFA at the end of the season. (He is one of their Captains). Early on he was in trade talks. Now the Wild are in a playoff hunt and have won 6 of their last 7 games. Chemistry in thier room has never been better and they just recently did a team building activity where Dumba was singled out as one of the leaders.
5) 21 Yr old Matt Boldy is on pace for 30 goals, 61 Pts. He is a RFA at the end of the season. Due a raise.
6) 24 Yr old Sam Steel is Centering the Wilds top line with Kaprizov and Zucc. He is an RFA with Arb rights. Will also get a raise.
7) 22 Yr old Calen Addision is leading all Wild Dmen in scoring and pacing a 47 point season. He is Quarterbacking the Wilds PP1. He too is an RFA due a raise.
8) They have prospect depth on D. Carson Lambos (2021 1st rounder) producing at PPG pace in the WHL. Ryan O Rourke 2020 2ND Round pick and 2x Canada WJC dman in his first AHL season.

Lastly the two AMERICAN GM's are well acquainted. Drury and Guerin played on 3 international teams together. They also just completed a trade last month. Reaves for the 5th.

I've been a staunch trade Kravtsov and anti forcing him into the lineup but the lineup today is even a puzzling and troubling move for me...

Kravtsov looked good since re-entering, don't get me wrong, not perfect worthy of special treatment like some prop him up, but he looked good.

Solid possession through NZ and entries, committed to backchecking...just really don't understand the move to replace him with Goodrow.

Goodrow is a leader, and bring a TON of qualities other guys on this team don't, but not only is your lineup and team at its best when he's centering the 4th line, he's at his best when hes not forced into an offensive role hes not suited for.

This move legitimately helps no one, not the team, not Goody, not Krav. Just perplexing

The lineup today would quite literally be the ideal lineup not only current day, but also to show what we should be focusing on at deadline IF you made the simple switch

Laf-Zib-Kakko
Panarin-Chytil-Krav
Kreider-Trocheck-Vesey
Blais-Goodrow-Gauthier

I'd even argue for a swap of Gauthier and Vesey, but either way the point holds true.
You're either looking at a disconted P. Kane joining the team in the top 6 on the RW of Panarin, likely at the expense of Krav and a 1st.
OR...
You're looking at a 2/3 RW addition costing less to slot Vesey down to the group on the 4th line and solidify the top 9. That would likely not cost Kravtsov, and whoever it is would be interchangeable on 2nd and 3rd lines with Krav.

This team is at its best when Goodrow centres the 4th line, contract aside. That is a 3rd line, not 4th line contract, but the way this team is constructed, we don't have the roster to build a 3rd line around Goodrow, hence hes 4C with major PK minutes and can move up in defensive situations.
Plugging a square player skillset of Goodrow into a round top 6 hole does the team does good, does Goodrow no good and does Krav, or whosever spot hes occupied no good.

All other points are moot and the list could have ended in support of original poster saying Wild won't trade Middleton after point 1.

Minnesotas brand is physical in your face hockey, supported by the scoring likes of Boldy, Zucc, Kaprisov. They aren't going to take away a main, integral defenseman that is an embodiment of their style of hockey leading into the playoffs.

Minnesota clearing cap for resigning Boldy comes in offseason, but I can guarantee they won't dismantle a 1 pair LD who is a huge part of their style of play, when they just fully committed to bolstering that by allocating 1.75 to Reaves. Reaves joining them wasn't to enable them to move a higher paid physical player, it was to add to their identity.

He is good, but they will trade Goligoski and Merrill this deadline/offseason before trading Middleton.
