I mean that's not a system, that just playing modern offense. Tell me 5 teams in the league that don't want to do what you just said. That's how you make offense in the NHL now, that's also why teams that don't do those basics rarely win.
yes.

Everyone wants to do it but they dont know how. Gallant says he wants to play like the Devils... we're in a different stratosphere.

It's the new modern day offense that I want.

It's gonna be hard to turn this ship around, too many albatross contracts and too many underperforming young players. Seems like this thing is gonna need to be rebuilt all over again but I don't know how.

So that isn't a system though, that is my point. A lot of the success you see in NJ with a modern day offense isn't bc it's coached, it's bc they let their skill players play aggressive skilled hockey.

Here we have aging vets playing to what they have done always which is outdated in today's game in many cases. That is what a 10 year gap creates and when the staff tries to coach the offense out of young players when they come here they kill creativity and neuter them.

I don't look at NJ and say wow lindy and brunette really taught them how to play offense, I look at it and say they helped those kids learn how to incorporate defensive awareness into their offensive instincts. HUGE difference.

I thought Reaves sudden request for a trade came at an odd time. I suspect he saw this group as a lost cause.
I would guess Drury and he had a few discussions about it and the understanding was, 'you need the cap space. If I'm not going to be playing much, and there's a call out there, let's chat'. Minnesota was amenable for RR and they pulled the trigger. Don't think there's anything weird there tbh.

Before you go that route I think you have to expose the kids here and really see what they are. Can they take a step with a real chance prolonged where some of the other vets have to take a step back to let the next wave come into their own? That is what needs to be answered here.

no, it's 100% coached and it's an in sync system. All 5 are moving at once and are moving like a symphony. If you dont think that's coaching, I don't know what to tell you.

Devils looked like a chinese fire drill last year. Their offense was decent with top talent but they were no where close to this level. The Florida Man changed that and brought it together.

Gallant and Quinn have the same systems. They play similar styles. I do not mean that every single aspect of the system is the same. In a general broad arching sense.

Its not really...give the kids the reins, let the vets provide support for them. I've been saying it since last year we had this all wrong, we got all the old guys eating up the minutes and the kids sitting on the bench. We have a great mix of players they were just never put together right. Laf Zib and Kakko adds speed and skill, Panarin Trochek Kravtsvo adds skill, Kreider Chytil Vesey adds forechecking and defensive responsibility, and the 4th is the dump and chase line. We were playing two of our older players on the pp, most of the 5 on 5 and on the pk, it was insane. The young players can't be roadblocked anymore.

Laf & Kakko add speed? That’s a bit of a stretch lol

Laf Zib Kakko
Bread Chyt Krav
Kreids Troch Blais
Vesey Goody Goat
I dig it, but would like to see Goat w/CK-Troch. 2 players on the wings with size and speed who can get the puck in the zone and actually retrieve it. I know he's still recovering but I haven't seen much for Blais to be in the top 9 at this point. Either Vesey or Goat over him but personally Goat would be my guy to give a shot there.

There system has been the vets just doing whatever they want and continuing to allow it. That is my point. The vets here are 7-10 years behind the current trends of offense for players as they come up. I dont think brunette walked into nj and taught them how to play offense. their team last year was just bad defensively and had awful goaltending. you clean up your d and have improved goaltending and it makes a huge difference. their offense was very good last year and they made more additions to the forwards which pushed players down the lineup and made the forwards deeper. that is part of why they are so much better this year too.

If on the odd chance this works, I think 3RW is the position that you're looking to upgrade again this deadline. Another Vatrano type acquisition.

My hope is that Blais picks up his game as the season rolls along but I'm not putting him in the top 9 in the playoffs unless it's an emergency.

Currently yeah (but anyway it's all conjecture anyway.. I mean the armchair coaching) but we all know that a 'back to being himself' Blais > Goat, Vesey.
I was coming from that.

I'd say if on the odd chance it's tried. Though, somewhat contradictory, part(s) of it already been tried just the other night.
Krav is a question mark, as much or more than Blais (depends on the latter recovering)

Blindside, retaliatory hit on a player without the puck. That's not hockey, its cowardice. Lindgren wouldn't hit a player like that.
Pure warriors lack arrogance/ego

I gotta say, I have been happy with Vince. He has actually been pushing with his questions and wants to know what's going on and why the young players aren't playing. Keep it up. It can actually make a difference.

Was Pastrnak suspended? Lindgren hit Pastrnak who responded by hitting Lindgren. It's hockey.
I think you’re getting into semantics?
Pastrnak was penalized on the hit, which means that the hit on Lindgren was illegal.
The league was wrong in not fining or suspending Pastrnak for that retaliatory blindsided hit on Lindgren it sets a dangerous playing environment for all players. If Pastrnak didn’t like the clean hit by Ryan Lindgren he could have waited for an opportunity to return the favor with a clean check or he could have challenged him to fight. Some people would say David Pastrnak is a coward or a dirty player or both.
Side note: This is the same David Pastrnak that 6 years ago got suspended for two games for an check to the head of Dan Girardi and the same David Pastrnak who ran Anti Raanta in last year’s playoffs that took Raanta out of that series.
