I was going to say at least he’d be an upgrade over Hajek. But uhhhh, apparently not. That’s an accomplishment

Seems like great news to me.. young player for nothing. That bottom line has been a question mark all year with guys in and out of the lineup. No one has really stuck there. Reaves, Carpenter, Blais, Gauthier, Brodz... Goodrow and Vesey have seen some time on that line. There's plenty of opportunity for this kid to grab a spot. If he doesn't, no big deal.. zero risk. The upside is if he does find his stride here he's locked in for about as cheap as you can get for another 2 years after this

at 5 on 5 this year, when Miller and Fox are paired, they have a ~65% xGF and CF.

I absolutely understand not wanting to stack the top pair but like, some of Fox's offense is wasted with Lindgren who is pretty bad offensively, and Miller's positioning and ability to walk the ice is wasted since he's always looking over his shoulder to cover for Trouba.

This isn't really a complaint, Fox and Lindgren are the best D pair in the NHL this year (I checked), but I think there is merit to putting those two together. We'd be on a 5 on 5 powerplay most of the game.

Chychrun? OwO
I kind of disagree with both takes.

Lindgren being bad offensively is an old take - I think he developed his game further (with the help of Fox being his partner obviously) to being a bona fide top-4 two-way defenseman in his own right. He started making more skilled plays toward the end of last season and originally I didn't expect it to last but he's been making plays again in the offensive zone with consistency this season.

I also don't think that Miller is covering for Trouba as you're implying. I actually see Trouba toning down his efforts offensively and staying back to let Miller "do his thing" in transition and in the offensive zone.

This is another reason why I don't want to see Miller - Fox. Not only because I prefer speading out their minutes on ice but I also in the Lindgren - Trouba setting I think Trouba will try to do more than what he's capable to do consistently.

i'm guessing over the course of the game against dallas the line usage will most likely evolve into these combos:

trochek-zib kakko
bread-chytil-kratsov

i'm expecting that at least 2 goals will read in no particular order the following:

bread-chytil-fox
Not a chance Trocheck goes to LW with Zibanejad. Even if / when Gallant decides to go away from Lafreniere with Zibanejad - he'd almost assuredly would go with moving either Panarin or Goodrow there. Even Kravtsov would be the likelier option than Trocheck.

Why is Blais still in the lineup?

I also think the Panarin/Trocheck experiment needs to end. Swap him and Chytil and let Trochek center the blue collar guys.
Trocheck is godawful with Panarin. The Strome chemistry was real. Strome was like Robin to Panarin's Batman and would selflessly play second fiddle to him and do whatever Panarin wanted. Trocheck is an extremely selfish player who rarely ever passes, instead takes shots that have no chance of getting through to the net. Panarin & Krav make some nice plays to one another, I notice quite often when Panarin gets the puck in their end Krav will cheat early and Panarin is ready to feed him. They think the game similarly to one another, but Trocheck makes that entire line disjointed. There are countless times where Krav is wide open with a clear shooting lane or lane to carry the puck but Trocheck will instead carry the puck into traffic and lose it, or fire a shot wide or into defensemen when there's no shot to be taken.

Lafreniere needs some time on that line, they can't do what they did last time and play him there 4 periods, he gets 2 goals and has a bad shift and never gets back there. This is it, this is the opportunity for the player and the team to see what we have for a playoff run. If they trot him out there for 2 periods and then say they didnt like it I'm done with Gallant and Drury. Our playoffs hinge on the kids being good, and that's not a new thing, the team needed all three of Chytil, Kakko and Lafreniere last season to get that far.

Strome was lazy and missed wide open nets. Chemistry is nice and all but is it really chemistry when all you do is pass the star player the puck 24/7?

Krav and breadman however do have good chemistry and I hope he stays with him for the remainder of the season. Kid is showing some good progression. Unlike the French Canadian drafted 1st OA.

Can't really agree with that take on Trocheck. I don't see him as a selfish player. He shoots when he gets the chance. That's what his coach likely wants.

With that said, I do want to see Trocheck take shifts with Lafreniere. I think these two players would compliment each other better if they had enough time to get used to one another. If that means Chytil up top then so be it. One thing would worry me there. Who's backchecking?

Prime Richards. I love Zib but Richards in Tampa/Dallas was extremely good.

Depends on team structure but with todays lineup I take prime Richards though as others have noted he was never the same after his concussion a year before he left Dallas.

Good thing for us we got out of that contract at exactly the right time, just like with Stepan and Brassard.

Not to digress but in that theme I wouldn’t be shocked if we actually got a big return for Trouba including a young roster player in a summer deal.

They did play about the first 14-15 games together to start the season (with Laf on his wrong side) without really looking like there was anything special there. Not a huge sample size, but not insignificant either

Trocheck is a north south player like Chytil- Panarin is east west. That’s part of the issue you’re seeing with compatibility.

Zibanejad can play either style but he’s better doing the north south game with Kreider.

We’re in another wierd situation like when Jagr played with Isbister and Gaborik played with Christensen where we don’t have a center who really fits with our star winger.
