Some people think Hayton could be had. I'm not sure I buy that.

@bobbop any thoughts?
He’s been pretty disappointing. This year he was all but given a top nine opportunity and he did not grab it. Definitely headed to full blown disappointment status. Yes, he can probably be obtained but Arizona will hold out for a rich price. But is he worth it? I’d make a call to inquire but I would be very leery of overpaying.

Left = Strome

Right = Chytil

People have no idea how good of a season Chytil just had. I have all of the confidence in the world that he can slot right into Strome’s spot tomorrow and we’d barely miss a beat. Give the kid some PP time and he’d be a 60pt. player easily.

Trading Strome is a no brainer for me.

Trading Buch probably has to happen even if I’d rather they not.

Honestly if they throw him on the PK where I’m pretty certain he’d murder it he’d quickly become an untouchable in the eyes of 80% of this place.

Listened to the 31 Thoughts podcast. Sam Bennett sounds like a guy who’d be perfect for us. Might cost a lot though.

For 6”1 he plays small. Not enough weight on him. I have no interest. He doesn’t do one think that jumps out at you and your like wow. Garland is the best player on that team and he is a small guy as well, but when you watch him, you see he’s got that it factor. I wouldn’t pony up the assets for hayton but that’s just me. I see Jamie Lundmark X2

I'm under the belief that if Drury is a talented GM: he won't entertain Eichel. It just seems like a poisoned chalice. Injury, steep price, and potential locker room issues.

Instead, he will trade blue chips for blue chips. Flip our logjam at D for centers.

If he does that this summer, I'll be impressed.
Gorton already put in a serious offer for him las year. Drury may continue to lay the ground work. The injury has definitely made the rangers brass leery right now. Not rushing into anything

I think there may be a point that the Rangers have serious competition for Gallant. I believe he has already interviewed with Ron Francis. Worth watching especially if there is a surprising result in the first round of the playoffs.

At least for his salary demands. Seattle doesn't look to be nearly as enticing as Vegas was. Teams have learnt their lesson and the player base to start with will not likely be as talented. And Gallant's been there done that. Rangers really are a good opportunity for any coach. If you drop the ball with the Rangers where they are now, you might as well stop coaching.

You basically just climbed on top of the Gotham police department and flicked on the bern signal.

Why is wedding Brendan Smith even a thing now in 2021? We need to move contracts this summer. :D

Bern signal lol @Harbour Dog do he even post here, because he seldom did after all the years.
He was usually spotted on the trade forum with some genius trade proposals! :)

Other than reserving my right to address/clarify anything invoking my name, (continuing the DC imagery)
bern has been vanished to the Phantom Zone for not capitulating on Boo [despite that while most disagreed w/idea, nearly all agreed on my right to express it].

If you want legit, unadulterated, real deal bernmeister, you need to lobby the Commissioner's/Mayor's/Governor's/President's office for a release.

But does Gallant want to go to yet another expansion team? I think it would be extremely optimistic if he thought he could turn another expansion team into a contender in short order. Teams will be smarter this time around with who is left unprotected, the requirements, and making crazy trades (Florida).

Gallant wants to win a Stanley Cup. The only team I see him going to risking not making the playoffs right away is Detroit because of his relationship with Yzerman.

Rangers should have traded for Sam Bennett. Granted, Fla is way ahead of the Rangers yet this Bennett move may distance themselves more.

looking forward to that Fla/Tampa series

As far as moving wingers I would much prefer moving Kreider instead of Buchnevich. Pavel had a really, really good year. Only 8 of his 48 points on the power play. He produced even when his center Mika wasn’t and became an excellent penalty killer.

Chris OTOH was even more inconsistent than usual. There’s no denying that his net front presence on the power play makes it more dangerous but 14 power play points were about half of his 30 point total production. Lafreniere IMO is ready to replace him now as a top 6 player.

Moving Kreider’s cap also opens up the possibility of keeping our 1/2 centers at least for the time being.

I think everyone agrees. It’s just gonna be hard to pull off.

This is from last week

Since the story I published earlier, I have heard from a conflicting source about whether Dolan was angry at Gorton for not making a deadline trade. Indeed, I was told, Gorton came pretty close to making a significant hockey deal, for a legit player, not a rental, but a team backed out. I have also been told that Sather, though front and center Thursday (and involved throughout Wednesday’s crazy day), is not getting back into any kind of major role. Nor does he, at age 77, want to. As an advisor to Drury, he can be valuable. If he wants to run the Rangers from behind the scenes, that’s dangerous, in my opinion. But apparently he doesn’t want to do that.

Final thoughts on a wild Rangers week: Glen Sather's role, Pavel Buchnevich's suspension, Jeff Gorton's legacy, more

What was the significant deal? Was it Sam Bennett? He was one of few NHL players to move at the trade deadline. The Flames acquired a 2nd round pick and Emil Heineman who was the Panthers 2nd in 2020. The Rangers could have paid that price very easily. A 2nd round pick in 2022 and Karl Henriksson.

I heard the Same Bennett interview on 31 Thoughts. He wanted a change of scenery and more opportunity. Bennett had been in Calgary for 6-7 years and it was time for a change. He also wanted to play center and the Flames played him on the wing. They moved him all around the lineup.

Bennett is playing 2nd line center in Florida. He loves it there. More responsibility. He loves the beach.

Maybe the trade was for another player. It was not Eichel because he was injured. Maybe Drury tries to complete that trade if wasn't Bennett. He was involved in that process.

Bennett is one year away from group III. He is a group II with arbitration rights this summer. I read the Flames may not have qualified him this summer. Bennett was not returning to Calgary under those circumstances. He was not re-signing there if he had the opportunity to change teams.

Maybe Gorton should have made the trade considering his job status was tenuous.

Would Quinn have used Bennett properly? We saw that fiasco with Eric Staal and AV.

Nailed it . He will coach the Rangers for 3 years ...likely get fired as do all coaches...but with one win of a Cup ring while here and then he ends up with StevieY and a Detroit team with lots of young talent for a last hurrah in Motown . I hope he gets well paid...and I assume that he will to the tune of at least 20 Million for 4-5 seasons . Ranger fans will love Gerard Gallant who for the most part is a really quiet guy off the ice who likes his golf and minor hockey games when he is not busy at his coaching duties. Crossing my fingers as I will be looking for tickets !

Bennet isn’t going to be worth whatever he gets paid going forward so I’ll gladly let Florida fall on that grenade
