I think that is just too much risk at this juncture. Patrick would be a better add for a team like Buffalo. Plus Philly would make us pay a pretty penny. And if it fails then it really could hurt our organizational progress moving forward.
I'm just saying generally. A 2nd?

Brooks wants us to trade for Tkachuk... I get he’s like the exact kind of player we need but we have like 42 wingers and 3 with crazy high ceilings already not even counting Kreider. You win cups with a good middle we haven’t learned this yet?

And we should absolutely find a way to get Tkachuk. Buchnevich out unfortunately, as I love Buchy. Don't care how many wings we have. Tkachuk is the ideal guy we need. Make other moves accordingly.

If it were up to me, I'd move Strome and Buch to bring in different pieces. I think at this point if you're not ready to give Chytil, Kakko and Kravtsov more significant chances, and deal with the growth process, than something is wrong.

If Zibanejad is willing to sign for a reasonable deal (5 years, maybe $40 million), I probably roll the dice there.

I'd go with Zibanejad, Chytil, acquired third line center as my top three. I'm fine with Kakko and Kravtsov in my top six, along with Panarin and Lafreniere.

Kreider, along with a third line center and maybe a third line RW we acquire as part of a Buch/Strome shuffle is fine with me.

I hope thats the way they go. Strome and Buch's trade value have to be very good right now. I think we can get some very solid pieces coming back from the other team.

I love Zibs but man does he scare me if we make the playoffs. He shrinks in big games against tight checking opponents and thats all the playoffs are. I hope though that with the influx of some toughness attitude and work ethic that will help to push him in the playoffs.

So im a bit iffy on wanting to see if we can bring in two new centers like Elias Lindholm and Hertl type for the 3rd line.

I would also like to go out and try to sign some solid 4th line players who know how to forecheck, play physical and know how to defend.

This is exactly what I would do. If Strome plus Buch can’t be parlayed into the diversified depth this team needs, I don’t know what to say.

They’re eventually going to have to deal some prospects as well but now is not the time.

This SS guy story is really heart warming, Did he ever tell you how many civilians he executed in the Ukraine?

These things are debated back and forth, but it was a bit special, a small country like Finland was attacked by the Soviet and it’s hard to fault them for becoming allies with Germany. After the first war ended, some Finns and Swedish volunteers “kept the fight going” by joining Germany because everyone knew the Soviets would come back and take another swing at the Finns if they got a chance, which they did.

Play wise, I agree. The fact that they’re looking to move him because his teammates are tired of his antics doesn’t bode well, especially here where there’s no solid leadership group

Nah IMO this is a giant red flag that Slats and Dolan are pulling the strings from this point on. What do I know though

Post just published an article saying Dru asked Leetch to stay and Leetch stepped away anyway. It's seems to be an indication that what Dolan pulled is not sitting well within the rank and file. I'd be a little surprised if this isn't the tip o the iceberg. At least for Gorton/JD guys. But its intersting again, because Leetch wasn't necessarily a Gorton guy as much as he's a lifelong Rangers guy. And so it's a bit of a reminder of what a real punch in the gut last week was.

Which player do you prefer?

Does anyone with any insider knowledge have insight as to who is currently untouchable for the inevitable win-now trade? Every time I read anything suggesting trading Kakko I lose a part of my soul

brooks said Laff, Fox and Shesterkin others they “would rather not”

I think it's possible, though Edmonton seems like the type that wouldn't offer up Holloway and doesn't have much to offer if he's off the table.

There are some people who think Florida could have an interest depending on how they look in the playoffs. While conventional wisdom says you don't move young talent, this is also a franchise that has waited a long, long time to be in this position. There's a lot of chatter that they've got their stars in their primes, they've got one of the best coaches in the sport, and this is their window to make some noise. They have to make a statement.

I wouldn't rule out someone like Los Angeles as a dark horse candidate.

I've heard the Jets, Habs and Yotes mentioned in speculation. But some of those teams are in the same boat as the Oilers in the sense that when you take one or two interesting pieces off the table it becomes much harder to find a match.

He's not there yet but the Jets do have David Gustafsson. Skating has improved to the point that I don't think it's a liability anymore. Don't see him as a centerpiece in a Buch deal but could be a nice add-in that pays off in a year or two. Has the kind of game I want in a 3C even if he's probably a year away from being that guy.

Lundell for Buch would be ideal but assuming the Cats re-sign Verhaeghe and Duclair, I guess Buch would slot in on that #2RW spot with Huberdeau and Bennett? With Verhaeghe, Duke, and Bennett all needing new contracts, I'm not sure how they bring all 3 of them back while also adding Buch on a new deal. Guess we could take back Stralman to be the #6/7 for a year. Also that'd give them Duclair, Buch, and Hornqvist down the RW. Tippett isn't that center we need but he certainly gives us a shooter that we're lacking.

The thing with Zibanejad is that I feel like he can take over and dominate a game - and a healthy version of him has been in the 40 goal, 80 point range for a while now. I can see him as a core player on a championship team if he’s healthy.

Of course the questions are do you think he’s capable of maintaining that level, for how long, and for how much?

And against teams that limit rush opportunities and check him tight.

Agreed that total body of work is favorable for Zibanejad. Question for me is, is 2021 an off year (despite rebounded finishing ability / shooting %) or the start of a downward trend.

I’m not in favor of a big deal for him but recognize how difficult and controversial of a decision that would be and that my butt isn’t on the line for saying that.

I hadn't heard they were actually looking to move him. Are they? That would lower the acquisition price ;)

Why not? Not trying to be contentious - I'll be the first to admit I'm not great at trade value, but if I'm sitting on a ton of young centers and one of my team's needs is a 1RW, I'd consider trading a prospect whose likely ceiling is a really good 2C for a 1RW who is 25, still a RFA, has improved in all aspects of the game every year and is coming off a .857 PPG season. I dunno - maybe I'm way off base but I don't think it's an outrageous ask.

I don't know if Turcotte exactly fits the Rangers needs or not. I mean he's getting close to the NHL. But he may need more time in the A. And he's roughly 5'11" and may or may not bring the kind of game the Rangers might be targetting with a C acquisition. I get that he's not a bad return or Buch in the grand scheme of things. But he's not my first target. I would focus on Lundell and if there's a way to pry Holloway from EDM.

Kravtsov

2021 1st

Just this should get it done. However, I don't want to give up Lundkvist or Kravtsov. Are we really going to trade great young assets for someone who has medical issues that might not even play next year due to Buffalo having him do PT instead of surgery? What happens if PT doesn't work and he needs surgery? That's another year off the books and who knows how he will be when he returns.

I think given the situation and the injury risk of be more willing to give:
Buchy
Strome
Jones
1st rounder
Lesser prospect
Or take one out and put Chytll in

No kravtsov no Lundqvist.

If Tkachuk was a Center he would be the #1 target. Unfortunately, he is not.

The better move would be to acquire Lindholm and acquire Larkin/Hertl. Trade Buch, Strome, Chytil. Sign Foligno and Goodrow.

Lafreniere-Zibanejad-Kreider
Panarin-Lindholm-Kakko
Foligno-Larkin/Hertl-Kravtsov
Barron-Goodrow-Blackwell

If salary permitted it, I would try and add Coleman next to Goodrow to upgrade Blackwell. I would even take Boyle over Blackwell. Barron could learn A LOT from Boyle. Lindholm would be the key acquisition because his salary is affordable, allowing for the Rangers to sign Foligno and Goodrow. But that lineup makes much deeper and tougher to play against.
I think Larkin would cost way too much to be on the third line

I just don’t see LA doing it. I don’t think they move Turcotte for a winger, he might be their best piece in an Eichel trade

This is my understanding as well. While teaming up with Germany during ww2 is a horrific thing the Finns had a really bad history of the Russians doing terrible things to them as well. To this day, they still have disdain for Russians. To the point where in the Helsinki Airport just a few years ago I saw a toilet lid with graffitti on it that was an arrow pointing down into the bowl with a note that read, "Russia." I'm a Jew so I'm really really really not a fan of the Nazis. So, not defending that aspect. But i can understand the position the finns were in there.

I wouldn't mind at all replacing Buch with Tkachuk but it comes down to how do we upgrade the 2C part? We would be paying 11M to Panarin, 7M or more to Tkachuck as wingers, while still having Lafraniere and Kreider. He is the perfect kind of player I agree, but as much as we need that kind of player I dont think it needs to be in the top 6 as much as we need a center who is better than Strome.

I agree. My neighbor when I was young, and close friend despite being close to 70 (he didn't have any kids of his own and always let me ride in his tractor when he was cleaning the streets from snow during the winter) broke his leg when I was maybe 8-9, it wasn't pretty, they were moving an excavator from one truck to another and a chain broke and he was caught under it, but he just said 'I ain't going to a doctor, if you go into a hospital you will never get out, there will be no more discussions about it'. His wife of course got worried and some family members tried to talk sense to him, but it went as far as him brining the shot-gun next to him on the sofa to show that he meant business, and he was the type who would have used it no doubt, volunteer in Finland during the war who went on and fought with the SS and had a temper like nothing I've ever seen. 4-5 weeks later he died. He and his wife only ate potatoes, eggs, hard bread and fish (perch/whitefish/burbot). Today that is some diet, but did it help him from surgery? It is still a touchy subject for me, if you need to see a doctor, go and see a doctor.

"When I was 8 I had a 70 year old close friend (which totally isn't weird) who was also a Nazi war criminal".

I gotta tell you, Ola, of all the crazy shit you've ever posted, this is probably your best yet.

I am not giving out medical advice other then see a f***ing doctor. But calling out people who do is very much the right thing to do. I have seen people die because they listened to quacks. Sure, people are stupid if they listen to random weirdos on the internet and they shouldn't, but they do. And it is no joke. So, respectfully, f*** off.
Nah I’m good. Come talk to me when your an actual doctor.

Leave it to the SS to make the Soviets look good in comparison, nice work boys
