tampa has had cap issues for half a decade and they get it done. They are going to pay off someone to tale TJ or buyout AK before they deal their young stud center. We went down this dillusion last summer that the HAD to trade Cirelli or Sergachev, there was "no way" they could keep both, but they did.

so basically it is all speculation and pipedreams with no substance to your claims, meanwhile the original post you made was that these are options instead of eichel. apparently options, not fantasies. eichel IS available and everyone knows it. it is plainly obvious he is getting dealt this summer. chase your tail or take advantage of an opportunity staring you in the face. if eichel was a ufa we would be scrambling to get him. yes he will cost in a trade, but we dont even have room for all our depth and this is a chance to cash some of the excess in for a legit top line player.

Why boudreau? His teams constantly seem to struggle in the playoffs, to the point that the narrative follows him around. I cant see him coming here to help get them in the playoffs only to be canned in three years bc they never got out of the first round...

Exactly what I expect will happen.

My Dad was a die hard Jets fan and made a 3-step pact in the 80s...where they had a 2-year window to do certain coach/personnel things or he was giving up investing in them. He gave up the Jets shortly thereafter and doesn’t regret his decision one bit.

Feels like I am right in that window myself, might be time to think about a list. No idea what this franchise is about to do at the moment.

The man-man defense aspect cannot be forgotten here. Both Gallant and Boudreau are man-man coaches.

But first of all, man-man defense vs zone isn’t black and white. All zone defenses has an element of man-man coverage and vice versa. Ultimately it depends on decisions made by the players, and the coach’s impact is more of a rule of thumb. But a team like the Islanders is of course strict zone while Bruce B is pretty strict man-man. I don’t know about Gallant?

Ultimately, I come from a man-man background and has seen a lot of man-man hockey during my up bringing.

But when looking how extremely loose the NHL game is right now, when even a strict defensive team like the Islanders will have two Ds pinching in at the same time, backhand drops inside the blueline while a line change is taking place, forwards challenging Ds 1 on 1 no matter the score or time left on the clock — things that are total no-go’s at most places just 5-10 years ago — I wonder if the stability of a zone defense isn’t to be preferred?

You can also be very effective offensively despite playing a zone defense. That is the big difference, you play man man to not stand still when you play defense, I.e. to already have speed under your skates when you win the puck. But like look at Philly this year, I think it’s risky to go man-man, especially in our division. How will the schedule be next year?

Mika isnt going anywhere. He proved that hes still the same player hes always been after he got over the Covid fog. There no reason to move on from a guy that does everything the team is looking to add more of. A guy who can actually finish chances and plays well in all 3 zones.

His 5v5 play fell off a cliff this year even after he recovered. His defensive game is also wildly overrated. He’s passable and looks ok next to his competition on the NYR but people on here talk about him like he’s a Selke candidate.

It's hard to be so negative about Zibanejad, the guy has been everything we could have hoped for and more since he was traded here. But I can't help but think if the Rangers re-sign him, it is going to be a signing they regret sooner than later. I'd almost rather just let him walk after next season and lose him for nothing.

Oh thats your point. Yes it is all speculation but all trades are speculation until it goes down. So while you would like to say there is no substance, there is smoke in those places. We have talked to the flames before and im sure after this season there will be more available from teams especially if we are offering the likes of our top prospects.

I agree with you, i think Eichel would be an absolute beast for us, he has never played with any talent around him and his contract is actually very solid for a young elite player who matches our timeline of our team. But in that case we need to trade zibs and strome to get our two way physical #2 center
