Being stuck in mud is not the answer. There have been some bright spots the last 2 years but there have also been instances that show the glaring holes. Last year's playin and the last few weeks of this season shows this team needs to add some parts to compete with the big boys. It would be indefensible if management continues to ignore these holes.

I agree with you, I'm just not sure who can add that fits the mold of a Jordan Staal type center.

We have a glutton of wingers, the issue will be who is willing to give up this type of player we need.

Interesting that Kakko & Miller were left off

Miller is not untouchable, he's a physical specimen but plays pretty soft, he's got huge potential but he's hit or miss right now. Needs to stop with the puck fumbles and wiffs multiple times a game, this in the NHL for gods sake. Next year will be big for him to show improvement.

Kakko has shown an ability to be a puck hog which is nice, but his vision and finishing are still questionable though. Also slick moves to maintain possession on the half boards are nice and cool, but they rarely lead to a big play, or finding the open man cross ice. Do that slick move in the middle of the ice with a prime scoring chance being the result please. Laf, otoh, has flashed elite level skill and vision his rookie year, something Kakko did not do.

It really was the season from hell. Not to mention Lafreniere missed pretty much an entire year of his development sitting in lockdown, the first ever first overall pick that had no rookie minicamp, no training camp and no preseason and came in ice cold.

It's a miracle he actually had as productive season he did, it's a miracle this team has more points than playoff teams in other divisions

Brooks was on the Blueshirt Breakaway podcast and suggested the Rangers untouchables are Panarin, Mika, Kreider, Trouba (NMCs, no surpise), Fox, Igor, Lafreniere and possibly Lindgren due to the role he plays. Interesting that Kakko & Miller were left off.

I think its smart not to get too attached to anyone outside of the core 7 or 8, now that the "build" is over.

I can see Kakko not being "untouchable." He's no longer the organization's crown jewel (Lafreniere). Plus he's a relatively quiet Finnish kid, which makes him expendable from a marketing standpoint. Not saying I agree with it, but I've been a fan of this club for 30 years now and this is what I know about them.

Again, the flames were flirting with reshaping their roster at the begining of the season. Had a horrible year and therefor one has to believe that they will revisit changing up their roster.

Sharks are a disaster and OLD they cant sniff the playoffs and should start a rebuild.

Again Tampa has cap issues if they want to keep players, something is going to happen there.

tampa has had cap issues for half a decade and they get it done. They are going to pay off someone to tale TJ or buyout AK before they deal their young stud center. We went down this dillusion last summer that the HAD to trade Cirelli or Sergachev, there was "no way" they could keep both, but they did.

Mika isnt going anywhere. He proved that hes still the same player hes always been after he got over the Covid fog. There no reason to move on from a guy that does everything the team is looking to add more of. A guy who can actually finish chances and plays well in all 3 zones.

For the sake of argument, let's skip the Kakko is/isn't untouchable thoughts. You cannot sell based on what he produced. You have to hold firm on potential, because the ability is there. If the buyer does not view him as a possession machine, high level stick handling, physically gifted, future star then we should not be having talks concerning this player.

Exactly. He is either the center piece, or not in the discussion.

His cumulative worth to NYR over the next 5 or 6 years does not dictate Kappo as a throw-in, add-on, or any other nomenclature that suggests his worth in a trade is only exactly what he is to this date.
