In fairness, the team has Lemieux, Chytil, Kakko and Howden on the team right now. All (4) of those guys are super young and I'd argue are all capable of being everyday 3rd liners right now (exception being Howden, although he has looked better at wing to me). So while it's really just Kravtsov and Barron as higher end forward prospects, I'd argue they have some depth there.

I'd also argue that should they trade Kreider, there will be a younger forward in the Lemieux mold coming back no matter what, in which case we have another, more than likely, 3rd line option moving forward.

I'm not overly in love with the Shattenkirk buyout myself, however it allowed for ADA and Fox to get a lot of meaningful minutes this year. That's a plus.

I get the sense that both Trouba and Panarin were about adding (2) key pieces to the organization for the eventual surge that will come next season, not so much this season. It just so happened that those key pieces were available a year early and Gorton didn't want to just wait and miss them both. Looking at this upcoming off-season, there in't much to poach to help.
This summer's UFA period should be all about getting reinforcements for the bottom six that can play up and down the lineup to insulate the young players as soon as they start to hit a wall.

Of all the UFA's upcoming, I'd want to bring Fast back for this reason. The bottom 6 looks really sorry without him. Brendan Smith, Micheal Haley, and Greg McKegg really aren't cutting it.

This I agree with. I'm hopeful they can add another young player or two to help out in that area. If Andersson could actually regain his form ad continue to improve he's actually pretty close to an ideal candidate for bottom-6 duty.

Look kreider was great- inconsistent, but when he was on, he was on. Thats the problem. He's 29, his career high is like 52 points and he scores a lot of tip in goals. Yes, he can use his speed, but i dont think he will age well, i just dont see him being effective at 32, let alone 33 or 34. Like i mentioned before, blues arent under pressure, they won already. Yes, they might feel stress to make the playoffs again, but the city of st.louis wont care as much bc they already did something no other team for their city could- win a cup for the first time in their 5p yr history. He's gone. May i suggest a different conversation, fox shld be pp qb 1, mans is on another level. Like tony d is all offense, but fox slows the game down and is able to create space. Thats been the problem for kakko btw, he's struggling with pace. Our team wont be a playoff
threat until we change our system and our prospects start playing with some experience.

Once again, were talking about one of the most consistent forwards on the entire roster. So the "Inconsistent" label is largely inaccurate.

Also, very curious about why he wont age well? Most well conditioned athlete on the club. Jumps out of Pools...literally! Can pretty much count the athletes that can do that on one hand. Age certainly hasn't effected his speed. He was very competitive against THE best skaters in the league.

Also, why is it a problem that he scores tip in goals? I think he leads the league there since 2015 or something along those lines. That came up on the broadcast the other night. Not too mention how many other goals he wont get an assist on but parks his body in front of the net contributing to screening the netminder.

Im a big fan of Fox, especially since he comes from Long Island. But...Really tough to say he deserves PP#1 over Tony D. DeAngelo is on another level. At least he's getting his time on PP 2. He needs to do alot to take DeAngelo's spot.

The Leafs are 19-8-3 since Keefe took over. Why do they need to trade some of their forwards? They've been one of the best teams in the league.

In that time they've only managed to be in a struggle for a playoff spot. They are salary top heavy in scoring forwards with a less than stellar defence.

GMJG might need to shop ADA to get a solid fwd back. Rangers just need Offense and they have way to many RHD that can play.

Trade ADA get a top 6 fwd, sweeten if you have to.
Hope next year Chytil and Kakko take another step, which is likely.
Trade Georgiev for the best possible return.
Trade Buch for the best possible return. Doesn't bring enough.
If you have to, Buy out Staal/Smith.
Resign the rest.

Completely changes the Offensive depth situation for next year. Also stocks up on some draft picks for further moves to get a guy or 2.

Kreider - Zib - Kakko
Panarin - Chytil - TRADE
Lemieux - Strome - Kravtsov
Smith/PDG - Howden - Fast

Skjei - Trouba
Lindgren - Fox
Hajek - TRADE/FA or one of ours.

Shesty
Hank
Just terrible.

trade mika too then. when does it stop?

When you have a core of elite top forwards who can play together for a decade like Chicago or Pittsburgh?

If we somehow won the lottery and got Lafrieniere this year, we might be done.

If not, then we still need to be trying to acquire via trade and creativity long term top 6 forwards like Kyrou and Newhook and/or trading up for Holtz, Raymond, Stutzle, or Rossi.

Getting those types far outweighs having Kreider at ages 29-35. Cause even if a guy like Kyrou or Holtz "tops out" at Kreider production, which is probably playing it relatively conservatively, they fit the roster construction timeline better than Kreider does.

The same may be true of Mika before his contract runs out as well.

He may be worth signing again at 29.

Or next year at 28 we may want to parlay him into a huge asset pile. What if we win the lottery at #2 again, draft Byfield, and by this time next year he's looking like a cornerstone #1 center of the future? Is Mika not moveable?

Conversely, if he takes a half step back next year, even without a future #1 center in the pipeline, maybe moving his salary lets you recoup a first and then become a FA player in 2022 for a young center. Might be wise.

The Rangers are stuck with Panarin. They'll have no choice but to bring Zibanejad back unless Gorton pulls a rabbit out of the hat and can get a trade for a center like Jack Eichel done. The only reason we're talking about Kreider extending is who in the system is taking his place and eating his minutes? Besides Kravstov and MAYBE Barron, the prospect pool is barren of any potential top 9 forwards. Gorton made this mess, and he's going to have to trade and maneuver his way out of it.

The Shattenkirk and Girardi buyouts are going to end up doing more to harm this team than help them. There's so little cap room this summer to improve the team because of all of the dead money from the buyouts. The Rangers weren't going to contend this year. The Shattenkirk buyout especially was a Hail Mary that Panarin was going to put the team on his back and surge the team into the playoffs. He's put the team on his back, but the issues with the team stem from more than lack of offensive depth.

The Rangers are exactly where I thought they would end up this year. Missing the playoffs and just missing an impact forward in the draft, picking right around 8th to 11th overall. The carousel of mediocrity goes round and round...

It's not really a mess. Yes the system is short on forwards, but we are not in a rush to compete, so what's the mess? Cleaning up the mess is accomplished by continuing to rebuild. We are part of the way there, why is everyone acting like we are stuck with this half-developed product? It's not done. We have another top 10 pick coming, another season after this one potentially out of the playoffs, and plenty more tradable assets, including a plethora of defensemen.

We need another 1-2 high end forwards including a center, either to play with or eventually replace Mika. My preference is eventually replace and Mika can transition to #2 center as he ages.

If we are at 8-11 this year (and hopefully we won't be if we trade off guys like Kreider and Strome and Fast), then we should use our surplus defensive prospects, or Buchnevich, or someone else, to trade up from 8 to 4 or 5.

IMO 1st round pick 20 + Klim Kostin for CK would be absolutely fine..
I would do this but would the Blues and Kostin is a need for NYR with Kreider going. more big wingers that play a mean style with top 6 or top 9 skill. if Kreider goes, I rather the Rangers acquire a player with some of the same traits as Kreider size, skill, good in front of the net, brings passion and grit.

He’d have been better off in NY compared to Montreal. That’s literally like living in a bubble.
Weber signed an offer sheet with Philadelphia that Nashville ultimately matched. When you play in Philadelphia, the arena is a few miles south of downtown and the players have an easy commute to the South Jersey suburbs. They can avoid city life altogether if they want to.

Of course, some of the younger players live in the city and a couple of them (Mike Richards, Jeff Carter) upset management a few years back by living a high visibility (and high party) lifestyle. That’s how they punched their ticket out of town.

They have the 3rd best points percentage in the league in that time frame behind only TB and PIT so I'd say the top heavy on scoring forward approach is working out just fine for them.

I very very much doubt that Kreider brings back a 1st and a top prospect. Refresh my memory if I’m wrong but didn’t we trade a 1st and Duclair for Yandle who had 1.5 years remaining AND Phoenix retained 50%?

I will believe it when I see it. We go through this every year.

Remember the "OMG, we're getting Sergachev for McDonagh" talk?

The trade deadline is like roulette, you don’t know what will happen, but if you are getting on green odds are that you will be disappointed.

I think it’s best to just lean back and hope for the best but keeping in mind that their are no certainties. Like ONE injury could have a significant ripple effect on what happens in five other trades.

Panarin is filthy. Although he has some chemistry with Strome, imagine surrounding him with real legit C talent and a finisher.

I think Kyrou potentially could have really good chemistry with Panarin.

If Kreider goes to STL I would much rather get Kyrou period than a 1st and a B tier prospect. Preferably of course like Kyrou and a 2nd, but that would be my target.

The Rangers also gave up a 2nd and John Moore, and got back Chris Summers and a 4th.
