kakko will finlly have a true top6 spot next year, his production will jump just with that, not even accouting for his personal progression that will definitely come into play.

I'm expecting satisfying increases from Kakko and Lafreniere. Between them and Kravtsov, I expect one will actually have a breakout to some degree (as in, more production than expected, not full blown "I'm an all-star now"). I don't expect any of them to regress. I think they learned some valuable lesson last season under Quinn and will be given more top-six opportunities, PP looks and trust from the new coach.

I don't expect any drop off in offensive potency from this team. It may be a bit more spread out, but I expect our GF/G to be the same or better than last year's 3.14. I also expect that with the transition from Smith/Hajek/Bitetto and rookie Miller to Nemeth/Lunkdvist and sophomore Miller, as well as a full year from Shesterkin and the addition of some defensive awareness up front, our GA/G will be better than last year's 2.77.

I'm really not worried at all about this team right now. Am I maybe worried about Drury's ability to get what he wants in a trade? Maybe. It was one trade that we're basing that off of (Howden and Goodrow's rights were too small to judge). Am I maybe worried about how Drury negotiates with UFAs? Maybe. Goodrow really only got a 300k or so above what the rumors suggested he'd get. His Lindgren contract was good. I'll need to see what happens when free agency opens Wednesday. I'll reserve judgement on those aspects of Drury's tenure and admit that they're open to be scrutinized thus far. As far as the actual roster and product we're set to put on the ice goes? I'm actually more optimistic for this season than last.

Seravalli has a podcast. He thinks DeAngelo is signing with the Maple Leafs. The DFO Rundown. It's available on iTunes. The Canadian media will drive Tony crazy. Frank reported Cizikas is looking for $5M AAV. Frank thinks Krejci will be valuable player in free agency. He is still a 50 point center. Short term deal.

The Habs new assistant coach is Trevor Letowski. He was Tony's head coach in junior. Sarnia. Apparently, the Habs are still interested. There was a tweet today.

Rumors linking Tony DeAngelo to @CanadiensMTL
intensified today. It is interesting to note that the controversial defender has, in the
@OHLHockey
, evolved for 4 years (2011-2015) under the orders of ... Trevor Letowski, the new assistant coach of the CH. To be continued

Coleman is another $5M-$6M role player.

After seeing how easy it is for CBJ and Arizona to tear it all down and accumulate picks it is clear Jeff Gorton was handed the easiest job on planet Earth: to tear down a roster that was just a year removed from another near ECF birth.

He had a massive jump start on his rebuild by liquidating a team with huge names like Brassard, Stepan, Hayes, Zuccarello, Nash, Miller, McDonagh.. etc. He was in a position that was practically impossible to screw up.. and that's completely ignoring two of the best players in the league forced their way to NY and was handed a 1st overall pick from the heavens.

Tearing down a roster is always the easy and fun part. Building it back up is the hard part.

Look at all the picks AZ has been able to accumlate by only trading Garland and OEL and then using the rest of their cap space to get the equivalent of what Gorton got for all our top players he sold off.

Its really easy to tear it all down and accumulate draft picks and prospects. Everyones jerking off the Kings for having such an amazing prospect pool, when all they've done is suck a pigs ass for 6+ years and draft in the top 10 every year. Also they haven't graduated like hardly any of their prospects.

We went from like a bottom 5 pool to the best in the NHL in like 3 years. Not hard to do unless you're San Jose and you can't rebuild due to contracts.

The things JG should be commended for are his dank trades , like getting 7th overall and TDA for Stepan + Raanta, the Zib for Brassard deal, and the rick Nash trade. Not every GM can do that.

You say this like he did a bad job. Our prospect pool is loaded and would be even if we didn't win the lotteries.

I just don't think Gorton was as aggressive as the higher-ups wanted given that we won those lotteries.

As much as I hate the Buchnevich trade the Goodrow signing was a homerun. Takes care of a number of scenarios. If we sign Eichel and get rid of both Strome and Chytil he can play 3rd line center.
If we stay put, he's on the wing and can move to center if someone gets injured. If we don't get Eichel and trade Strome, Chytil can move up and Goodrow becomes 3rd line C.

As much as the Buchy trade has been lamented and rightfully so unless Blais turns in Cam Neely. I do think we undervaluing Blais. He isn't really just 4th line fodder unless he just gets lazy in pre season. He is a definite 3rd liner and could be put on the 2nd line if injuries occur or an underwhelming performance from Kravy etc.
The dude we know is physical but he has a very good shot both slap and wrist.

So I know we dislike it but we also should devalue Blais either he may surprise and to really know how to value this trade we need to see what that 2nd round pick becomes in a great draft.

5 million Czikas, 5 million plus Coleman. are we still gonna say Goodrow is way overpaid at 3.6?
is Czikas really gonna get that much? Damn

Anyone can tear down a roster. That's not what Gorts did. They systematically moved pieces while also making sure that the team was competitive enough to compete every night. It isn't finance, where transactions are about assets and nothing more. A successful rebuild requires an environment where players think the team can win. That's what Buffalo, Edmonton, Arizona, etc always seem to forget. You can collect all the draft picks you want, but if they don't have an environment in which they can develop, the odds of them becoming what they can be goes way down. Walking that tightrope between re-building the team without bottoming out is a lot harder than it looks.

We made the playoffs with a 20-20 Marcus Naslund as our biggest scoring threat. I don’t think offense is gonna hold us back
Agreed. It will be nice to see a more balanced attack (on the scoreboard and in opposing defenders faces on the forecheck).
2 or 3 of our lines should have a nice mixture of that.
