That’s disingenuous though.
Howden = Blais
Blackwell = Goodrow
Buchnevich = full year of Kravtsov
Smith = Nemeth
Bitetto/Hajek = Lundkvist
Or, more accurately:
Howden < Blais
Blackwell < Goodrow
Buchnevich > Rookie Kravtsov
Smith =< Nemeth
Bitetto/Hajak < Lundkvist
Everywhere is an upgrade except for rookie Kravtsov. We'll see how he progresses. We also should have better seasons from all of the kids.
Kravtsov was ALWAYS the heir apparent and eventual replacement for Buchnevich. It was always going to be one or the other and after the season Buch had we pretty much KNEW we weren’t going to devote the cap it would take to keep Buch to another winger.
Kravtsov played 20 games on the 4th line last year. You have to look at the full season of Kravtsov as the “replacement” for Buch. But the idea has always been that the #1, 2 & 9 picks were going to have to take on bigger roles and replace production from more established guys as we managed the cap going forward. That’s what’s happening.
A full year of Kravtsov, Chytil year 4, Kakko year 3, Laf year 2. The offense should not suffer a drop. Different coach as well; the kids may very well breakout a bit. Who knows.
Miller year 2 on D. Adding Lundkvist rather than Bitetto/Hajek, swapping Smith for Nemeth.
Honestly the team is better than it was last year. Every move is a disaster right now because we overpaid Goodrow 300k and got a 2nd instead of a 1st for Buch.
