Great points. The Buchnevich trade yielding a poor return seems to be clouding the thoughts about the team. Drury wanted to make the team harder to play against and so far, regardless of contract value/trade returns, he's identifying and acquiring players who are tough to play against and are actually good players instead of face punchers or bad 4th liners.

The Buch trade reminds me of the Clutterbuck/Nino trade.

Who won that one?

The slogan for half the posters here (not even including my very long ignore list) should just be "No, you're wrong, everything sucks... but I'll be happy to be proven wrong!" like some weird fallback to excuse whining non-stop lol

Did Pius Suter not get qualified? That would be a simple solution.

I don't know anything about Suter, really, but pulling up his bio/stats, he seems to be a younger version of Colin Blackwell (ie: a little guy breaking into the league later than usual and putting up ~.5ppg). Where would he even play?

I like Getzlaf...3x3

He's pretty cooked. 5 goals, 17 points this year. 36 years old. I'd give him one year deals at around 1.2M and re-sign him for another one year if he performed, as the Leafs are doing with Spezza. I don't think I'd commit 3 years to a 35+ contract.

Suter got very sheltered minutes on Chicago. Offensively geared. I think he was consistently their 2nd line center for the most part. They probably look and see Strome, Dach and Toews being back and they have no need for him.

I don't think we're the spot for a player like him.

I don't think he solves our problems. He's exactly the type Seattle should be looking at right now.

That’s disingenuous though.

Howden = Blais
Blackwell = Goodrow
Buchnevich = full year of Kravtsov
Smith = Nemeth
Bitetto/Hajek = Lundkvist

Or, more accurately:

Howden < Blais
Blackwell < Goodrow
Buchnevich > Rookie Kravtsov
Smith =< Nemeth
Bitetto/Hajak < Lundkvist

Everywhere is an upgrade except for rookie Kravtsov. We'll see how he progresses. We also should have better seasons from all of the kids.

Kravtsov was ALWAYS the heir apparent and eventual replacement for Buchnevich. It was always going to be one or the other and after the season Buch had we pretty much KNEW we weren’t going to devote the cap it would take to keep Buch to another winger.

Kravtsov played 20 games on the 4th line last year. You have to look at the full season of Kravtsov as the “replacement” for Buch. But the idea has always been that the #1, 2 & 9 picks were going to have to take on bigger roles and replace production from more established guys as we managed the cap going forward. That’s what’s happening.

A full year of Kravtsov, Chytil year 4, Kakko year 3, Laf year 2. The offense should not suffer a drop. Different coach as well; the kids may very well breakout a bit. Who knows.

Miller year 2 on D. Adding Lundkvist rather than Bitetto/Hajek, swapping Smith for Nemeth.

Honestly the team is better than it was last year. Every move is a disaster right now because we overpaid Goodrow 300k and got a 2nd instead of a 1st for Buch.

You are 100% right. We are definitely a better team.
That being said, we did overpay for our third line right winger. We overpaid for a third pairing LD.
And after seeing the return for Reinhart. We did not get enough for Buch.
Drury should have done better. I was expecting more.

ideally i would want someone with speed, i think its something we lack. Larkin via trade or id take a yanni gourde

him, what are realistic center packages from ottawa, vegas, or arizona for Strome?? Dvorak? Brown? someone make me wet my panties.

i want these teams in me dms

From Ottawa Dadanov, Tierney and L Brown + probably 2nd round picks are available. I’d bet on it being a package around some number of those pieces

ritchie is the epitome of big dumb lazy f*** that sometimes really hurts someone

he's not a bad player though.
