Strome belongs in Minnesota or Arizona or Edmonton or Ottawa

teams like that going absolutely nowhere as always. Those are the teams thst take a Ryan Strome and I don’t think they even want him

Lundkvist, Kravtsov in.

We're also going to add at least one forward in UFA.

Exactly... as I said above:

Howden < Blais
Blackwell < Goodrow
Smith =< Nemeth

Hajek/Bitetto < Lundkvist

Buchnevich > Rookie Kravtsov

A full year of Kravstov (plus steps from the other kids) is the Buchnevich "replacement". Everything else is an upgrade.

Also, and then I’ll get off this dead horse- Strome might actually have the most value as a deadline rental to a contender

The good news from the Nemeth deal is that Jones and Robertson will start the year in the AHL. Let them build on their game at that level. Jones went from NCAA and didn't look out of place, but wasn't excelling either. He needs time. Likely a season in the AHL and running their PP.

Robertson could be the eventual replacement type for a Nemeth. More defensive type, might have some more offense in his game. Let him get 20+ a night for Hartford, hopefully their top PK guy.

Also makes me think that Lundkvist has more of the inside track than Schneider for that 3RD spot. Nemeth is the right kind of partner for him. He should based on what he has done so far, but Schneider has done well for himself too and the coach is somewhat familiar with him from the Worlds.

Worst case scenario is that Nemeth eventually becomes the #7 in year 2 of his deal based on how Jones and Robertson develop. Sure 2.5 isn't cheap for an extra D, but it's also not an immovable deal if we really need the cap. You hope by year 3 of that deal Robertson and Jones are beating the door down and taking that spot, if they haven't been moved already.

That’s disingenuous though.

Howden = Blais
Blackwell = Goodrow
Buchnevich = full year of Kravtsov
Smith = Nemeth
Bitetto/Hajek = Lundkvist

Or, more accurately:

Howden < Blais
Blackwell < Goodrow
Buchnevich > Rookie Kravtsov
Smith =< Nemeth
Bitetto/Hajak < Lundkvist

Everywhere is an upgrade except for rookie Kravtsov. We'll see how he progresses. We also should have better seasons from all of the kids.

Kravtsov was ALWAYS the heir apparent and eventual replacement for Buchnevich. It was always going to be one or the other and after the season Buch had we pretty much KNEW we weren’t going to devote the cap it would take to keep Buch to another winger.

Kravtsov played 20 games on the 4th line last year. You have to look at the full season of Kravtsov as the “replacement” for Buch. But the idea has always been that the #1, 2 & 9 picks were going to have to take on bigger roles and replace production from more established guys as we managed the cap going forward. That’s what’s happening.

A full year of Kravtsov, Chytil year 4, Kakko year 3, Laf year 2. The offense should not suffer a drop. Different coach as well; the kids may very well breakout a bit. Who knows.

Miller year 2 on D. Adding Lundkvist rather than Bitetto/Hajek, swapping Smith for Nemeth.

Honestly the team is better than it was last year. Every move is a disaster right now because we overpaid Goodrow 300k and got a 2nd instead of a 1st for Buch.

I think it's more Kakko taking the minutes that Buch was getting and Kravtsov moving up to take more of the minutes Kakko had gotten.

If you hope for a bump in scoring from both of them it still could make the roster stronger and productive but opens up space for the future growth of those guys
Still shoulda gotten more for Buch though!

Don't forget:

Gallant>Quinn

Plus year 4 of Chytil, year 3 of Kakko and year 2 of Laf and Miller should all be marked improvements.

Yeah, it doesn't matter to me whose getting the minutes. I just meant that Lunkdvist and Kravtsov also belong on the "players in" category. It's not Howden, Blackwell, Buch out and only Blais, Goodrow in. It also paves the way for full-time Kravtsov, and like you said, more minutes for both he and KK.

After seeing the Buch return I would tend to agree. Seems like it’s not the best market for trading guys due contracts themselves.

Nemeth is a great pickup, glad to see them targeting him

The Strome situation is odd. Reporters are saying there’s interest but how much interest is there really?

clearly not enough or he’d be gone by now, it’s obvious Drury wants to move on

It’s strange but it almost feels like just dumping his salary would be a good return, but idk if that’s possible

That package don’t even get you Oscar Lindberg plus cheese my man

If Strome didn't move at the draft, and now the NYR have their vet LD, would be almost a bit surprised if he was dealt at this point.
I would be surprised if we have the same 3 centers. Everything else is window dressing if we don't swap one of the centers out for a defensive minded, face off improvement.

So quick little breakdown here:

Buchnevich, Blackwell, Howden, Smith out

Blais, Goodrow, Nemeth in

Time will always tell but nothing that is making me overly enthusiastic about this off season here…..
Tbh when you write it out like that it’s not that bad. Buch is obviously the best name on that list, followed by Goodrow. The rest are mostly nothing pieces.
