I love how they say the rangers and Buffalo aren’t close but then in the same breath if we replace our offer by one different player it appears it’s a done deal . To me that sounds as close as you can get lol

idk if its that close but the fact that packages are being leaked makes me think this is not over at all. What a mess

they’re virtually equal offensively 5on5 but one guy actually plays defense and the other doesn’t give two shits let you guess which one is which
My concern with Danault is that his offense seemed to evaporate in the playoffs. He’s great defensively in those games but he’s going to be paid like a scorer and he’s definitely not that in the post season. If Chytil can play the scoring 2C role, that could work for a short time but then eventually Chytil is going to cash in.

Sure...were very close to trading for Connor mcdavid...were only 1 player away from closing the deal...Connor mcdavid.

The signing bonus is next year as is his ntc. He had a signing bonus last summer as well, but there isn't one this year, just the flat 10mil salary
Ahhh gotcha my mistake then. Regardless I believe that if this continues to drag out his camp is gonna start to be more vocal. Adams is overplaying his hand but thinks he can because he got great returns on Reinhardt and Risto. We’ll see what happens, but now he won’t have the luxury of having known picks to ask for in the deal like 3 with Anaheim or 15 with Rangers or the 2 later picks from Minnesota. There are also no Laf/Kakko level of prospect being offered or else it would have been done already.

Ehh I’m not too concerned about it. If he was scoring while playing as well as he did he’d be asking for 8 mil not 5.5. Plus I think being surrounded with the talent we have his numbers will tick up. Montreal just didn’t have a lot of fire power at all surrounding him. That’s not going to be the case here.

the Zib conundrum is that if we sign him now to a big deal now and then he sucks this year we're screwed. But if we hold off on signing him until after the season we risk a) him having a great season and upping his price even more and b) having him disgruntled that we didn't "trust" him and him not wanting to extend or taking any kind of discount whatsoever.

Just a reminder that Gerard "real NHL coach" Gallant unleashed Florida's 2nd overall pick to a whopping 36 points in his first season as coach. Systems take time to learn. Especially for younger players. I think Kakko is poised to take a big step forward but lets not pretend like Gallant is going to turn these kids into superstars immediately by virtue of not being David Quinn.

Hence why the last 2 years of Quinn making him "earn it" has left Kakko & the team as a whole behind the 8 ball. On a related note, we need to all brace ourselves for the inevitable 4-8-1 start we get off to before figuring out the system some time in December

Not concerned about the la k of offense in the Post Season.

Nice to have, but when he goes dark, he still incredibly effective player and not Claude Rains.

If the Rangers flip Strome for a LHD, I have a really, really hard time seeing the NY Rangers strolling into the first day of free agency with -- assuming allocations for Shesty and Chytil -- ~$15m in cap space and not spending it on someone. I could see them offering someone like Getzlaf a big 1 year deal to center the 3rd line if in fact they don't want Goodrow there or Blais in the top-9.

If we trade Strome and don't make any other trades/signings, we just became a significantly worse team.
Not sure I agree with this 100%. You're significantly upgrading the bottom 6, and presumably upgrading the bottom pair (I assume your "not other trades/signings" doesn't include a vet D, which they will almost certainly acquire). Then, it comes down to how well the young forwards, including Chytil at 2C, progress.

If that's the the path they take, it's definitely a big bet, that could easily go either way. It's a risk.
