The Rangers need the top 6 minutes opened up for Kakko and Kravtsov. Whether Kreider’s contract existed or not has nothing to do with needing the minutes on the RW opened up. So it was either block the younger kids who we believe will have a higher finished ceiling than Buchnevich or pay Buch $5.8 AVV (or more for NY state taxes) and play him on the 3rd line? Doesnt make sense to do that.

Perhaps the Sabres should be more concerned with making their team better in the future rather than accepting lesser offers so they can play him twice a year instead of four or eight times.

The return for Buch isn’t great while the guy is a freight train. Goody is a solid addition who you can buyout for little after 4 years.

Don't disagree with you there, I went into this thinking if we got eichel without losing young roster guys like kakko, Lafreniere, fox et id be happy, if that happens i guess I still will be.

This is me too. If we get him without Laff Kakko Fox I really can’t complain. If we pass Im cool with that too

I dont think thats true in todays nhl, you don't worry about how the other team is you worry about making yours the best you can. If you are picking a lesser prospect because you dont want the player in your division then you are worried about the wrong team. Also, adding 10 mill to our roster might force some tough decisions about Kakko, Lafreniere, Lundkvist etc etc so i don't think Gm's worry about it as much as you think
