That’s not the trade off. It’s an injured Eichel and a lot of assets vs Danault.
I understand what is involved.

And I would still rather wait out Eichel’s recovery than Danault at 6x$6. Of course a trade depends on assets going back to Buffalo.

And you could also sign a Center on the cheap $1-2 million range to be a stopgap while Eichel is on IR. You would have cap space by putting Eichel on IR. So for next year they can still have a competitive team until Eichel returns. When he returns, then you slide that stopgap 2C vet down to the 3rd or 4th line displacing Rooney.

But all in all, I really, really do not want Danault at anything above $5.

"The Blueshirts are seeking to trade Alex Georgiev, whose $2.425 million cap hit is a bit pricey for a backup and who has asked the team to send him somewhere where he might compete for the No. 1 job — though apparently there has been no “official” trade demand." - Brooksie

Did I miss something? When did Georgiev ask, apparently under the table, to be elsewhere?

Frank Seravalli mentioned Georgiev asking for a trade. He said wrote Georgiev wasn't a good teammate. It was last week. Seravalli has a trade board and he wrote those items regarding Georgiev. Who knows if the bad teammate stuff is true.

I'd much rather the team be less competitive and have less depth over the short term than be locked into poor long term contracts and be annoyed at the circumstances for many years to follow. They should just be patient if there aren't good options available...

Agree. 6x6 for a 3C who's being overhyped because he's the best center in a crappy UFA class is not the right move. NYR can very easily roll out with what they have for this year. Who knows, maybe Chytil takes the next step? If not, we know Strome has the chem with Breadman to make it work.

Danault adds an element this team doesn’t have. He shut down every team’s top line in the playoffs. He is not a 3C or 4c like some here have suggested. He is a 2C who is elite defensively and has never really played with great offensive players.

The contract stuff is so overblown. Tampa just traded an actual 4th line player with a $5m cap hit and 3 years remaining on his deal and all they had to do was give up a 2nd round pick and took money back. With a flat cap. Danault can be moved down the line if it’s really necessary.

Tampa is gonna use LTIR on that money they took back (Seabrook is done). They essentially did what the Rangers did last year with Staal.

Flash forward a few years

Laf $10 million
Kakko$10 million
Eichel $10 million
Fox $10 million

min $40 million for four players. One or both of the top two is gone.

Bob McKenzie threw out a bunch of deals

ones I didn’t see before are Rittich to NSH and McCabe to chicago

They need to pre-emptively sign key players.

Kakko will not be worth 10M after this season. Give him a long term contract and eat some UFA years.

Laf might be after the next 2 seasons. Even then, hopefully they extend him next off-season.

Same for our defensemen, Kravtsov and Chytil etc

Trying to lock up our core to good value contracts before the Cap takes off
