Negotiations 101 never make your best offer until you have to.. keep this in mind for a certain trade option

With those even numbers, clear the Landeskog camp relented and signed before the deadline.

Yikes.

But also happy the Islanders could not add him @bl02
I know but still there was some talk for a bit.
Anyway, pretty fair deal for the Avs since they know what they have in Landeskog.
asking too much for Mika to take the same deal? Maybe 8 million?

when a player is on LTIR you can spend over the cap by that amount....so they can now go over the cap by the amount of seabrook's contract. that extra space is only temporary until the player returns and then you have to be compliant again. but seabrook is never gonna play again.

Thanks this is the piece that for some reason was not clicking. If a player is on “permanent” LTIR the cap overage lasts as long as the players contract lasts. So they basically got cap relief for Johnson plus Seabrook’s cap hit “until Seabrook is ready to return.”

Mika “I want 10X7”
Drury “lol no, 5 x 7.5”
Mika “nope, 9X7”
Drury “nope 9X6”
Mika “deal”
Drury “glad to have you back”

Ok the price, but in the past week Chicago adds a top tier goaltender, a 2/3C, a top-pair D and retained a good 3/4C.

My guess is that Drury has tabled Buffalo his best offer as a take it or leave it for Eichel. He probably told Buffalo to take the deal by a certain time on Wednesday before Free Agency begins or else he will pull the offer back so that the NYR can spend their cap elsewhere via UFA or trade.

A Strome deal is probably also contingent on whether they trade for Eichel or sign a UFA. If Eichel is traded to the Rangers it will be by tomorrow. Other teams probably have told Buffalo something similar so that they can pursue other UFA’s with their cap space. Buffalo’s best offers will start disappearing once teams drop out by signing other players tomorrow.

I really don’t understand why the rangers don’t acquire all these injured players for picks etc .

Because they're trying to go to "win" mode and want to use that cap space on real players not just acquire more picks to build the prospect pool
