Ken Holland... give Darnell Nurse 9.25M after Makar and Heiskanen took sub 9M contracts. I know... less UFA years, but still... Nurse isn't on that planet. Don't drive up the cost of guys like Fox with this crap signing.
It's the same issue with Werenski. Have to overpay to get the player to stay

Kills the entire market.

Fox is the bigger man. His big brain and chin only require limited funds to multiply it.

Fox 8x8

I don't think so, if that were the case teams would not have to give permission for teams to talk to their pending UFA/RFAs.

Yeah but that comes with deeper conversations and plus you're basically trying to recruit a player to join your team at that time.

Saying that you aren't interested in player x is the opposite of that.

I don’t want to give up chytil for eichel with a busted neck

I don't want to either but I at least wouldn't flip out like if we included Kravtsov or Lundkvist.

It does mean we are still 2C hunting though, cause with Eichel here Mika is not staying.

Mika and Strome need to be converted to a future 2C and then draft capital.

If the Rangers are in on Eichel, it's going to be at or very close to their own terms.

I don't get the sense they've upped any offers.

So either Buffalo is coming closer to what's actually on the table, or a bunch of guys are desperately trying to draw attention to their "Brands"
Strome, Kravtsov, Jones, Georgiev and 1st?

Unfortunately, with how things have gone, I don't see Kravtsov here long term. I hope I'm wrong.

Fox is going to get his bag of money soon enough. If he was 8×10, so be it. If he takes less than that, I'd be thrilled.

He wanted to play here, so let's see if he takes less, but if he doesn't, I wouldn't care. You figure out the rest of the team after securing your most important player.

How could Drury say he was interested in Eichel to anyone (sans Buffalo's GM) without it being tampering?

... how is it tampering? It's a trade. If Eichel was an RFA or UFA before free agency started, it could be construed as tampering to show public interest in offering a player a contract when another team has exclusive rights to that player. Drury could scream I want to trade for Eichel from the top of the Empire State Building and it wouldn't be tampering... it would just ruin any leverage he had in trade negotiations. You can't tamper in a trade when a player doesn't have any movement clauses; the other GM either accepts your offer or not, whether your interest is public or not.

That was my point, Drury would not be able to tell agents he was interested, so the Brooks tweet does not make much sense unless Buffalo gave Drury permission to talk to not only Eichel's agent, but others to talk about him.

This is possible, maybe the league said screw it who cares, yet still teams did give permission to talk to some players (Hyman comes to mind but there were some others)

Because he was a pending free agent. Permission to discuss a contract with a player whose rights are held by someone else is a thing. You don't need permission to be interested in trading for a player - you either offer a trade that the other team accepts or nothing happens. Eichel is under contract. There's nothing for Drury to negotiate with anyone besides Kevyn Adams.

I'm curious as to what the max offer people would be willing to give up for Eichel @ 50%?

The same thing I give up for him at 100%.

Strome/Chytil, Jones/Robertson, Georgiev/other lesser prospect, and a first. I'll sweeten with additional picks, depending.

I'm really not interested in trading away guys like Lundkvist and Kravtsov, and definitely not Kakko, no matter how much Buffalo retains.

Those are my building blocks. I'm not destroying the foundation.

I need a center but I'm not tearing down to get one.

Why wouldn't Kravtsov be here long term? We just traded Buch to create a spot for him.
did we? Or did we create a spot for Kreider/Laf on the Right Side which has been mentioned too many times to not be taken seriously

there's a good chance Goodrow and/or Blais is there as well.

With all I've been told about how hard it is for players to not play their natural positions, I doubt it. If anybody is moving they can start with moving someone to center.
