To win a Cup, this team will need

1) a better player than Strome at 2C (even if not as many points, definitely a better all around player),
2) A player roughly equal to present-day Mika
3) Kakko and Lafreniere to develop into line-carring stars, which will likely take until a time that Mika is no longer present-day Mika
4) Chytil to continue to develop into a top-6 staple.

I don't think this team can really win a Cup in the next 2 years. Too many young pieces. Too many guys still developing (Lafreniere, Kakko, Kravtsov, Chytil, Lundkvist). The win-now pieces are Panarin, Zibanejad, Kreider, Trouba, Fox, but there's not enough quality depth ON the roster. It's still developing.

By time the rest of the pieces are win-ready I don't think Kreider and Zibanejad will be line carrying or team-carrying pieces anymore.

So I think we really need 2 centers still. Substantial upgrades to what we have on hand currently, or will have by time we are truly ready to compete.

It's a tall ask. Would have been easier to address earlier.

That would give us a top 20 center (Zib replacement in your 2nd point), two second line centers (your 1st and 4th points), and three line-driving wingers (Kakko, Laf, Panarin). That team would be more stacked than TB, which itself was only able to take the ice because of a once-in-a-lifetime set of circumstances that let them go several million dollars over the cap. That kind of superteam just isn't feasible with the salary cap. You have to pick and choose where you're going to be elite, where you're going to be good, and where you can best put up with average/below average.

I do agree that the team isn't likely to compete for another couple of years. Most teams have a "foot in the water" playoff year followed by a deeper run or two before the start continually knocking on the door. I'd be shocked if we didn't follow that pattern as most of our players don't have a ton of playoff experience.

I just don't see the Rangers going into next season with whatever is left over of the ~12-13M they have in cap space, after they extend Shesty, assuming that happens.

I feel like there has to be more to this off-season, Eichel or something else.

(I know there are longer term consequences, speaking just about this up coming season, Rangers going in with even 4-5M extra space does not seem normal)

That's why I want them to weaponize that cap space. The next two drafts are supposed to be amazing. The Rangers have a full (possibly over-full) roster as it is. They can't commit that cap space long term, because we'll start to need it (and then some) next summer. So why not play the Detroit role and take an expiring contract in return for a draft pick from a cap-strapped team?

Back and forth in my mind on Vally. First reaction is that it's nonsense. But it makes less sense for him to just tweet that for no reason. He actually doesn't tweet that often. I'm leaning towards there being smoke on this one.

No, no, you just leave his neck in the rice overnight and it's fixed. Ancient medicine.
All that does is absorb the moisture and you are left with dry neck. Which just compounds the issue. I say cook the neck in the rice and serve it like a paella.
