The Rose Bowl has been played after the traditional date in the past before though. It happened twice when it was designated the BCS title game for the 2001 and 2005 series.

So I think the CFP will cite this as precedent when they reject the Rose Bowl's request.

Whatever they do with the Rose Bowl Game, it's going to be weird for it to be in a Big Ten city moving forward.
