Member and songwriter for the disco band Heatwave in the 70s, but when he left the band in 1978 it was to let his work become more famous than he was, as he started working with Quincey Jones and wrote songs like Off the Wall, Rock With You, and Thriller for Michael Jackson.
Other highlights in his career include Baby Come to Me by Patti Austin and James Ingram, Yah Mo B There by James Ingram and Michael McDonald, Sweet Freedom by Michael McDonald, and Man Size Love by Klymaxx. He also wrote songs for George Benson, Herbie Hancock, Donna Summer, The Manhattan Transfer, The Brothers Johnson, Jeffrey Osborne, Aretha Franklin, Stephanie Mills, and Karen Carpenter. Due to sampling, he's also listed as a cowriter for songs by LL Cool J, Mariah Carey, Mya, and C+C Music Factory.
