Rochester Americans and Jacksonville Icemen 2024 Season Thread.

So @sabremike are you going to Bridgeport tonight?

Looking at some stats:

Metsa is now tied for third in scoring among defensemen. He's 2nd at 5-on-5 scoring among all defensemen (15 pts)
Clague is up tied for 10th in scoring among defensemen. He's tied for 6th in 5-on-5 scoring among all defensemen (11 pts).
Novikov is tied for 13th in 5-on-5 scoring among all defensemen (10 pts).

After Murray (15) and Rosen (13), there are four players with 7 goals and then three more with 6 goals.

Every skater they've dressed has a 5-on-5 point.

Just thought that was interesting... nothing evocative, just shows they're getting a lot of depth scoring and the defense is keying a bunch of it.

For those who watch Rochester more closely than I do, is it fair to think that Rosen and Johnson are still the top call-ups for their respective positions? Thinking about potential NHL roster moves that see multiple players out and a kid called up to fill in.

Would Samuelsson - Metsa be a good balanced third pairing, for example? That is, if they bothered to give Metsa an NHL contract.

Probably yeah. I would say that Neuchev is closing the gap as the next forward recall, but he's now hurt and I'm not sure for how long.

Novikov is also pressing up closer to Johnson. I feel a bit bad for Ryan, he's just steady and no frills defensive d-man and he can't get a break when it comes to generating any goals. He hit the pipe again last night, not the first time that's happened to him either. So the counting stats look bad, but he's their best defensemen in his own zone.

At this point, the PP failings in Buffalo would have me looking hard at rotating Murray in as a pure net front specialist. Yes, he's slow as cold molasses. But he can and does go to the net where he uses his size to take away vision, keep pucks alive, and finish in tight. Buffalo has what, 2 guys?, who go to and stay and the net total. And if it means double shifting someone into the fourth line in Buffalo, I'd be all for it.

Ostlund has not popped in viewings so far but he did miss 10 weeks.

Maybe? Metsa does a lot of things right with how he gets around the ice and is in position. But he's small and I'm not sure about Samuelsson's level of physical engagement any more. Metsa mostly pairs with Novikov and Novikov is fiery and definitely stick-mean out there, especially around his net. Sammy seems more like he's going to make a joke about The Big Lebowski than actually move someone with authority.
