friend of mine started talking like this via text, he started taking meds and it stopped completely.

2 years later he stopped taking his meds and this sort of gibberish came back, so if I had to guess hes off his meds.

Definite schizophrenic gibberish. First question would be is what medication/shots he is on and how frequent. His wife/father may not be the best custodians being directly involved in the business scams.

“My name is bob. Daddy isn’t deserved. Panda means something. But the name Lehner needs to be erased. It’s evil and need to be erased. ”

That sounds scary. But again, the correct medicine and dosage can clear these insane thoughts relatively quick.

Exactly, he’s in psychosis right now and he may not be taking his medication. It’s very difficult with schizophrenic people because they often don’t recognize their illness and they don’t think they should take medication. Some people take pills and some have injections.

For people that need to wake up every day and take their pills, it’s very hard to monitor and unless the person has a legal guardian they cannot force them to take their medication. When they don’t take them for a while they completely lose track of reality at one point. Don’t sleep, constant fear for their life, irrational thoughts. Racing thoughts and no logic behind many of these thoughts.

Some of his family members need to call in for a welfare check.

You look at the amount of text he wrote there. I’d bet this took him 10-15 minutes and it was literally words spilling out of his brain. I’ve encoutered situations where a person would speak for 30 minutes straight without taking a pause or even recognizing whether I was listening or not .. or if I was even there.

Can we dare applaud the VGK here for commiting to paying the rest of his contract (even though it won't count against the cap).

Clearly, they could (should) have got it terminated.

Seems they knew what was going on and decided to help him out and pay it out.

Due to the situation they would have paid it anyway. He physically could not jump on plane. bus or boat to get to take a physical due to his medical condition. Once the NHL informed them it would not count against the cap--that is when they were happy about the situation and then to pay him.

The NHL and The NHLPA discussed what would happen

Wish there was more time and I could understand why this is happening like this and why not just destroy me with the truth. I’ve been a terrible dad and husband that’s the truth. But I love them so much and I wish I was stronger and was not in this position. But for them I wanted to give my all so atleast they can hate me for what I actually done. The chaos will end and hopefully my family gets consistent life and safety and this attack can stop. I’m sorry God bless you

That doesn’t real well. Hopefully just rambling and not a suicide note

Seems to be suffering from mania at the moment. Just needs to go to inpatient psych and get Lithium plus an antipsychotic.

as he put it in a tweet a few years ago “hard to stop pucks on lithium”

Lots of antipsychotics unfortunately have side effect profiles that are incompatible with high level athletic competition. If his hockey career is in fact over, hopefully that will no longer be a barrier to his receiving effective treatment.

I got a real bad vibe about his dad after reading a few articles over the summer. Reading between the lines it was hard to escape the impression that there was an exploitative financial relationship there.

The tweet about his dad appears to vindicate the theory that his legal and financial troubles are not entirely of his own doing.

it's kinda wild that someone having that kind of manic episode still has the awareness to log into twitter and spew it there knowing it has an audience

brains are weird

I really wonder how much of the Vegas stuff is true. Vegas fans all know the game he was sent out there to back up when he was clearly seriously injured. It was a game that clearly should have an EBUG on the bench because his hips and shoulder were far gone.

The amount of people diagnosing him in this thread is sad. You’re not a doctor. If you are, you ought to be ashamed.

This feels a bit like stopping at an accident site to gawk. I know, I'm here, but someone's potentially acute mental health crisis probably shouldn't be a thread while it's happening.

Edited to add: I don't know if he's actually having a mental health crisis but this seems like the kind of speculation that has been frowned upon before. We've respected people's privacy for less. Yes, I know it's not really private if you blast it all over social media, but still.

Lehner's been extremely commendable for speaking out about his mental health struggles. He used his Masterton Trophy acceptance speech to discuss it and gave us one of the best quotes ever.

"I'm not ashamed to say I'm mentally ill, but that doesn't mean mentally weak."

He's open in that he was diagnosed with bipolar 1 with manic episodes along with PTSD due to abuse and addiction.

Now whether calling this schizophrenia psychosis instead of a bipolar manic episode, or whatever it might actually be, I think that's missing the forest for the trees; the important thing is that he's clearly not doing well and we all hope he gets help.

All of it are probably true. Friedman and all the other hockey media dudes who said that there was no foul play when Vegas ''settled'' Lehners contract shouldn't feel good about themselves now.
