Passed away today. 70.

Saw him on Avalanche game a few days ago. Didn't look well, but didn't expect him to pass this quickly...

Met him in a Bikeathon in Buffalo back in 1974; nice guy.

RIP Peter.

Just coming from the Avs board and it's really nice to see this thread on the Sabres board.

I remember Peter from the circa 75 Sabres era. He was a solid scoring forward tho occasionally criticized for not playing more of a physical game. Savard filled the Sabres needs better at that time but McNab fitted in so well with the Bruins that I think they won the exchange.

Peter was the color analyst for the Avalanche since their move to Denver and is loved almost as deeply as RJ is in Buffalo. (Not exactly a fair or 1 to 1 comparison because Buffalo is a hockey town and Denver doesn't quite match up to that.)

But, I NEVER heard a single dig or bad comment from Peter about the Sabres in all the time I listened to his broadcasting. He respected and I think enjoyed his time in Buffalo so its nice that he gets recognized here.

Oh that is sad news. Condolences to his family and friends. I had no idea he was doing poorly again.
Everyone here is shocked. He was on air as recently as Oct 22. Everyone (self included) thought he was doing and looking better.

No question Punch made a poor choice leveraging Peter into Andre Savard.

Punch's decision making diminished during his time here in Buffalo.

By the time Punch returned to Toronto, he was bat azz crazy; which made the situation in Toronto with he and Harold Ballard entertaining as he l l . Had I an ounce of empathy for Toronto hockey, which I don't - and didn't, I'd have felt sorry for them.

The Andre Savard trade. Andre was a nice player but he was no Peter McNab.

RIP, Peter.
Agreed. Savard was a good player and and good Sabre, but McNab was all that too, but seemed a more effervescent human, Savard's toothless vampire grin aside.

McNab did lift the Bruins of the late 70s - they had a strong roster, but he fit in extremely well.
Quite the irony that a shot off McNab's stick injured former teammate Gerry Desjardins eye, essentially ending his career.
