Very sad day in the music world. I loved J Geils band. I just downloaded several of their songs onto my Spotify the other day.

Many great great memories attached to their songs for me. Must Have Got Lost, Freeze Frame, Centerfold, Flame Thrower, Love Stinks- favorites from my teens years, along with my goofy teen friends. We did several dismal imitations of the video "Centerfold", peeling with laughter every time. :biglaugh:

Rest in peace, J. Geils. Condolences to his family, friends, and bandmates. Thanks for the awesome songs and memories attached to them. :handclap:

Total bummer.

My dad plays piano and the organ, and has always claimed he used to play with him in a band back in the late 60's.

Either way, great tunes, RIP.

Wow, very sad.

I remember hearing Come Back as a kid and loving it. Somehow it successfully combined a disco sounding beat with driving guitars.

I also recall the early days of MTV and seeing the Love Stinks video. Always got a kick out of the drummer playing with a fish.

And who could forget Centerfold? I was in middle school at the time, and can remember paying no attention in class and looking around the classroom, wondering which girl might end up a centerfold - ha!

Great music and great times; sad day today.

As a fellow poster mentioned, underrated band, RIP

Opening for Tom Petty in Boston this summer is Peter Wolf who`s solo work I have appreciated but was hoping to hear some classic J Geils tunes

Everybody did. For every Love Stinks T-Shirt I saw in those days, you'd think they played 150 days straight and the Garden held 60,000!

The greatest bar band that ever made it big. RIP J.

Our High School had a yearly Air Band contest which was hugely popular, couldn`t get half the place filled for a dance but our AB contest was the hottest ticket of the year and I sang in a "real" band but we did Love Stinks for this show which was a blast. The winner this particular year was a dude who did an absolutely legendary David Lee Roth tune

Saw them play a couple days after NYE in Worcester on the tour for the Show Time album. Pretty sure that was the last tour for the original group. Guy always had a nice tone. Wish they would have stayed closer to their R&B roots and away from the new wave, but it was "the" thing at the time.

played the grooves off "Blow Your Face Out" and "Live Full House."

saw them several times in the 70's. RIP fine sir!

I saw them a handful of times but remember seeing them at the Cape Cod Collsium in the mid to late 70's with Roxy Music and I think the Cars

The world back then had really cool things - I was cutting my folks lawn one sunny day and my buds come over and say the Cars are at the Paradise let's go check it out. We went in and for like peanuts grabbed a table right by the stage - amazing; did the same for Kim Carnes and she came over to us on a break

J Geils was huge when I was in high school
