Richardson invokes Zinedine Zidane

Of all the great soccer players....why Zidane, a player more well-known for an act of violence than an act of finesse. The Todd Bertuzzi of soccer.

Sweet kick redirection by Richardson though. He really Ronaldo's that one. :sarcasm:

It's really sad that despite everything Zidane accomplished In his career , the only thing he'll be remembered for is 1 moment of anger.

It's a shame the way Zizou decided to end his career but to call him the bertuzzi of soccer is ignorant. Materazzi is a **** starter and known for it and wasnt even injured.
Zidane was the greatest soccer player in the world for years and his head butt should be a foot note and not a way to dismiss everything he accomplished.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinedine_Zidane

"Renowned for his elegance, vision and technique, Zidane was named the best European footballer of the past 50 years in the UEFA Golden Jubilee Poll,[6] and has been described as one of the greatest players in the history of the game.[7][8][9]

At club level, Zidane won the La Liga title and the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid, two Serie A league championships with Juventus and an Intercontinental Cup and a UEFA Super Cup each with both aforementioned sides. His 2001 transfer from Juventus to Real Madrid set a world record fee of an equivalent €75 million. On the international stage with France, Zidane won the 1998 FIFA World Cup, scoring twice in the final, and UEFA Euro 2000 where he was named Player of the Tournament. The World Cup triumph made him a national hero in France, and he received the Légion d'honneur in 1998.

Zidane has won the FIFA World Player of the Year three times, a feat achieved only by Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo,[10] and the Ballon d'Or once. He was Ligue 1 Player of the Year in 1996, Serie A Footballer of the Year in 2001 and La Liga Best Foreign Player in 2002. Zidane received the Golden Ball for player of the tournament at the 2006 World Cup, and in the final against Italy was infamously sent off for headbutting Marco Materazzi in the chest."

That said, I fully expected a head butt as well. :p

I think it was a brilliant way for him to go out of the game, he did after all have 14 red cards through out his career. That would be a lot of red cards even for a player whose job it was to play dirty, his wasnt.

As one who will go down as one of the best to have ever played the game he managed to take his team to the worlds biggest final, once again, but unlike his first time when he shocked the world with scoring two goals with his head to win the game as a testament of his unpredictability, him being sent off in his last game ever was kind of poetic as well.

Great player, is still missed.

Bertuzzi was not exactly Zidane level of greatness, but he was one of the best too for a few years in his Nucks days.
The comparison is pretty fair, can't think of a better in terms of hockey.

Thanks, that's what I was going for.

As good as Bertuzzi/Zidane were in their prime, they are, unfortunately, best known for an uncharacteristically dark act that tainted both legacies. I realize it can certainly be argued that Zidane was nearer to the peak of his sport, but that's besides the point.

Zidane is arguably one of the best players of his generation. Sublim, exquisite talenet, do yourself a favor and look up one of those highlight youtube deals.

The headbutt is an unfortunate bookend to his career.
