Fortunately for us (and unfortunately for hockey), Minnesota decided they wanted to set the game of hockey back 5 years and had one of their 4th liners "get tripped up into" Lehtonen. We catch a huge break facing Thomas.

Would like to see Jenner get a piece of Chiasson, but first and foremost let's win the game.

Hopefully it's a break catching Thomas - can't tell if his poor play this season is a result of him (age and rustiness from being away from the game for so long) or a crappy Florida team in front of him. Probably a little of both.

Don't you mean dodged a break?

Stars are going to be annoyed with last week's result. We have to come out strong.

Are your quotation marks implying that the Minnesota player wasn't tripped into the goalie? I've seen the play many times and I'm not sure what you can legitimately expect someone to do when their ankle is hooked/kicked as they are approaching the net full speed. It was a nasty hit on the goalie for sure and you hate to see it happen to anyone, but that defender who got beat and tried to trip the forward with the puck had a major role in that collision.

The way he put his shoulder down and pulled off that headbutt was a really nice touch. Looks convincing until you wonder...that play happens 2-3 times a week, how come they never end up looking as bad as that one?

I have a feeling if that ended up happening to Bobrovsky, you (among others) would be petitioning for Erik Haula to be banned for life.

Perhaps. But we are in a unique situation of being emotionally removed from this situation since it isn't our goaltender.

Tripped at the edge of the faceoff dot closest to the goaltender, from behind, as he's heading towards the crease at high speed. That gives him, what, all of 7 feet tops to recover his balance and stop? I'm sure it was totally on purpose though.

Just curious, have you ever been on ice skates or played beer league hockey?

This is the first I've seen it, and it looks to me like he's kind of going down until the end, when he's suddenly going up with his shoulder into Lehtonen's noggin. I mean, it looks like a check.

With how the last game against these guys went, I'm a bit nervous about tonight. Definitely need multiple shots each period :sarcasm:

I can vouch for Sam. He has played competitive hockey before.

That gif is funny. It looks like noted idiot Matt Cooke is celebrating Lehtonen's mask being knocked off.

Watch his left skate. It cuts sharply to the left while his right skate is still dragging on the ice as he attempts to recover from the trip. The sudden shift in the direction of his skates doesn't stop his forward momentum and he is going down. The sudden up motion is due to his head bouncing off of Lehtonen's mask. Lehtonen's center of gravity is closer to the ice, so when the 2 meet Haula gets popped up. Football blocking 101, low-man wins. Except they usually don't run that drill on ice with a steel [or is it iron?] goal directly behind one of the guys.

Okay. It truly wasn't meant as an insult. I tried to ask as tactfully as possible as I would imagine someone who had never played hockey might not know to look at Haula's skates to see what happened. Chalk it up to a difference of opinion I suppose but I don't really see much that Haula could have done differently in that situation to avoid what happened, short of never going towards the net with the puck. In that case though, he's pretty much out of a job.

Why was Cam scratched?

Keep on rolling with what worked the other night, for now at least. I would think we see him back in tomorrow but who knows. When you play yourself out of the lineup the way Cam did, it's hard to get back in, especially when Comeau and Tropp didn't make any glaring error or give Richards any reason to change things up.

As I was reading down this GDT and people were saying he checked Lehtonen I was going to state what FAN said above. Then I exhaled because somebody paid close enough attention to understand what happened.

That being said I have faith in McBackup and we get the job done. 3-2.

FTR, I don't think that play on Lehtonen was an accident or on purpose. It was a little of both IMO but more accidental for sure.
I cringe when I see his bare head bounce off the cross bar.

Almost forgot, Go, Jackets, Go.

4-2 Jackets

It was Shaw who gave the forearm to the head of Nikitin during the Chicago game. My apologies Portzline.
