Kings Article: Reviving Kings in 4 Easy Steps

Would be ok with trying a lot of these. I think Jones has earned more starts than what he has been given the last month.
I always thought TT was over hyped but he has been a stud. The team truly missed him when he was out with mono or whatever it was.
I am believer in Richards over Stoll, but have to trust DL and sutter know way more than I.

I think it's more a matter of Quick hasn't earned as many starts as he has been given recently.

I disagree with his point that we should play Jones over Quick. While Quick has been average this season, he hasn't been horrible. I agree with replacing Stoll with Richards. I don't think Richards got a fair shake by being stuck on the fourth line, playing less than 8 minutes a game. I hope they experiment playing Richards on left wing in Manch. After the trade deadline, assuming we don't make any moves, I would like to see the following lines:

Gaborik-Kopitar-Brown
Richards-Carter-Toffoli
King/*Pearson -Shore-Williams
Lewis-Stoll-Clifford

*when he returns sometime by playoffs.

No shocker that MR has out produced Brown on average with worse line mates and half the TOI.

Also no shocker that Stoll ****ing sucks. MR, while deserving of plenty criticism, has been a patsy since day one, and most of the fanbase has bought into that idea hook line and sinker.

I've been a pretty big defender of Richards but if you're using Stoll as your standard for excellence then a close-to-6-million-dollar-man is in real trouble. Most of the fanbase "has bought into that idea" because despite some of MR's metrics being solid many more are in godawful condition. I agree with what Sheng has put out there though, Stoll has flown under the radar, largely because of his contract status vs. Richards'. But let's not turn this into 'that' thread.

And re: Jones and Quick--I"d like to see Jones get some more action too but we've seen this movie before with Sutter and Quick--he likes to ride him into the ground AND let him play his way through slumps. Funny, because the better Quick plays, the less he seems to play, eh?

Tyler Toffoli is a beauty and I think within 3 seasons he will be our leading scorer.

Edit: I lol'ed at the "promote martinez" section, took me a minute to get it

I agree that it is important to compare the cap hits of Richards and Stoll when comparing their performance. But because we are stuck with Richards, the cap hit does not matter. We should plug him into the line up eventually - once he does his "conditioning" - because, when ignoring cap hits, he is a lot beter option than any of our other bottom dwellers.

Exactly. I'd rather have an underperforming Richards, who we're stuck with regardless, on our third line than Stoll.

Also, Clifford outperforming Kopitar in shots at EV per 60 is just fantastic. There's no way Kopitar is getting 10 million a year.

Richards is on the ice for to many goals against to be an effective third line center, it's as simple as that. And it didn't matter whether he was playing with Jeff Carter, Jordan Nolan or anyone in between. It's as if some people on this board are just stuck in 2011 or just choose to ignore what has happened the last few seasons, no one was a patsy or a scapegoat. This is the NHL for Gods's sake.

And Stoll while being worlds better defensively doesn't score enough to be a third line center. Stoll and Richards are both fourth line centers at the NHL level, and if either one is back next year (which I think is unlikely) the Kings better have a ton of faith in Shore to be the 3C. The more realistic option is having Shore as the 4C and bringing in a veteran to be the 3C for a couple of years.

Maybe the reason Kopi is having this sub-standard season right now is, so
he can get signed for less and therefore help the team afford more good players for him to play with.

Or, more likely, that would be the Blue Dream talkin'.
:sarcasm:

We're not stuck with Richards. One way or another his contract will be dealt with during the off season.

Agree on Kopitar, he is going to be fine as a two-way center for several more years, but he isn't going to be leading the Kings in scoring much longer if he keeps playing the way he is this season. Certainly not even worth $9M a season IMO.

I would be fine with this if Dean can find the right man for the job. As an alternative plan I am okay with Shore on the 3rd line and Stoll on the 4th, at a greatly reduced price of course.

In your opinion, what players are worth $9 million or more if they were UFA's to be right now? I get the feeling you would only give $9 million per to a select few, such as Stamkos or Crosby.

Kopitar was worth $10+ million, at least in last summer's market. With the falling Canadian dollar, not so sure anymore. But I think he'll get $9 mil-plus.

He's not just a two-way center, he's an elite one, up there with Toews and Bergeron. I'd take him over Stamkos pretty much any day of the week.

That's right. :)

So just Crosby and Stamkos?

I'd give 9 to Stamkos but I'd give more to Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin (and I'd need a clean bill of health for Malkin but you know someone would back the brinks truck up for him so yeah). Other than that, no one else in the league should be smelling 9.
