Proposal: Reuniting Pearson and Toffoli - Anaheim or Rangers?

Wondering what the cost would be to reunite these two veterans on a playoff-bound team with cap space.

Anaheim would be a fitting landing spot - a geographical rival to the Kings and lets them return home.

New York is another fitting spot for two players who are comfortable playing in big markets.

Their combined cap hit is 7.5m and they are signed-cost controlled through their prime veteran years.

You'd have to negotiate with two teams to get them. Could be a recipe for a three-team trade.

Vancouver is likely looking for a young roster player - a defenseman who can play the right side ideally.

Montreal I would guess is looking at a 1st-rounder at least - probably more considering the premium you'd expect to pay for a well-priced top-6 forward at a deadline

edit: sorry I meant to put this on the trade section with header being Proposal:
Maybe a mod can move it?

I don't know why anyone would go out of their way to reunite them. They were good together but not like the Triple Crown Line or anything. If anything, why stop there? Might as well be the Penguins to reunite with Jeff Carter :P He was the secret to that line anyway. His playmaking ability is underrated and he was able to develop good chemistry with them.

The Rangers should not be buying at the deadline.

They just finished two games where Arizona and Seattle stomped them off the ice laughing, which they won solely because of goaltending.

To call the Rangers a paper tiger is to underestimate the usefulness of paper tigers.

Tanner Pearson would likely be available for much less than Canucks fans would seem as "decent value". I could very easily see Rutherford valuing the cap space higher than the player, and be willing to unload him for a 4th?

Not that I'm advocating it or anything, but just mindlessly speculating

Don’t tell Canucks fans that. They think Rangers should acquire JT Miller so they can get 3 firsts and Braden in return

Totally agree. But does Drury believe this?

I doubt any team has the appetite for something like this. Not like they have some undeniable chemistry anyway.

But if I was a contender that needed some more scoring I would check in on Toffoli himself.

For a team lacking playoff experience, these two could be a calming presence in the locker room. They could also be brought into a team that's rebuilding to insulate young players.

The Canucks should be willing to sell for pennies if it means clearing cap space though.

Toffoli won't be coming cheap. he is in is prime, scoring goals and playing great defensively. On a sweet deal for only two more years. The thing is he loves Mtl and his and fillsand important role for Suzuki's development.

I think we are looking at A prospect + 1 st pick + short term contract.

Toffoli would be a good fit in Calgary. They have been looking for a top 6 RW since bringing in Jagr.

Toffoli will cost you more than a first. he's cost controlled and affordable for 3 years and still a very good scorer.

wow great deal, where do we sign?

Well the reality is we have no reasons to trade him.

30 goals top 6 player in his prime. Great defensively and on a sweet deal (great salary and great terms).

Retained on top of that?? Let's say we are talking Toffoli at 2,5M$ per. I would say his is value would be on par with Kreider's. Would you trade Kreider for A porspect (Schneider) a late 1st and a disgruntled recent 1st round pick??
