Really lame. Nothing like deleting the results of comprehensive research by bascially the two biggest names in hockey history (the HHOF Committee and SIHR)! I don't agree with all the retro Conn Smythe picks, but jeez.

Probably the same guys I got into a wikipedia editing war with about the criteria of the old Vezina Trophy (they insisted it was voted on prior to the early 1940s based on a single article from the early 1940s that was contradicted by... Basically everything). Eventually, they realized I was right (not tooting my own horn, the lack of voting for the Vezina trophy before 1981 has been known on HOH since before I even posted here).

Luckily, you can still find these on the HHOF's own website.

Save the list on your computer.I just did.

Like TDMM said, you can find it elsewhere, but I prefer to have it right here at home just in case. You never know.

What a joke.

I never understood the basis of Wikipedia's existence.

It has plenty of times provided me with quick info snipets that I can easily find elsewhere but they probably answers my question the quickest with showing up first on Google, having an easy to navigate website etc.

But in reality, is it about knowledge or being a high-hat geek society? Do I wanna have access to a rich database or insidious mess that provides school kids with a lot of times dodgy info in copy-paste shape?

I remember in school, as far as up to high school, students were actually copy-pasting info from "factual" databases and got an A thanks to the lack of computer knowledge at the time by the teachers and the school. Once they got into it and Wikipedia had just launched, they started to refer to it as a good mean to study.

That's why I've always seen Wikipedia as more of a entertainement thing than anything else and quite frankly, I think Wiki links like the Conn Smythe Retro thing is exactly the kind of stuff I go to Wikipedia for, nothing else other than maybe geography.

Maybe it's because I'm a fan of Wikipedia, but I don't see anything objectionable about the reasons given for removing that article. Fortunately we have other Google-able places for such information to "live", such as right here on HF:

For what it's worth, I agree with the removal of this from Wikipedia. It's not an encyclopedic point, and does not belong there.

Someone linked the Wiki-page some time ago, and upon opening it my first reaction was actually, 'Why is this on Wikipedia??'

Wikipedia may be open to the public, but it is not designed to be a forum for speculative chatter (as this one is).

True. Wish I'd done this awhile ago; my site usually pops up as reputable per Wikipedia.

I do still think that it has historical merit. Unfortunately, the HHOF page is a web archive link.

Ugh, didn't realize the HHOF site page was only in archive now. That must be fairly recent

Ah...Wikipedia.

We used to amuse ourselves by editing the articles and insert random stuff or other's names into random article. I can still see some article hasn't changed.

What i wanna say about this is, Wikipedia is a joke as source of information. Heavily biased aswell, concerning some articles.

Yeah the problem I have with Wikipedia is its unevenness. Obvious vandalism on certain pages can stick around for years, but on other pages actual information gets deleted just because some terrible Wikipedians don't like it.

It's a giant social experiment. How many people recognize the vandalism and could fix it with a click, but don't?

Wikipedia can be good & useful if one takes it for what is. Of course there's bias there, but there's bias everywhere. Question is only the amount of it.

As for the retroactive list, three Smythes in four years between 1950–1953 to a player on the loser team?
