I'd try to get Bandon Tanev in there too.

Imagine going into the playoffs with.

Knies Matthews Marner

Patches Tavares Nylander

Domi Gourde Mcmann

Lorentz Dewar Tanev.

I don't think anybody could match that down the middle.

That's 3 lines that can score and a 4th line that can check.

then all you need is one defensive piece

At 50% he'd be a brilliant target, a very Berube like player - and would most likely be re-signable for a reasonable price.

After that we can target Andersson from Calgary for something around Cowan. Not that I like the price, the cap on Andersson at his level and style of play is just ridiculously low for this season and next - that is when we want to try and win, before the d-core gets too old.

Is there a way to keep Cowan and obtain andersson

I’d much rather B Tanev for let’s say Holmberg + Dewar as a base.

Lorentz - Kampf - Tanev would be a solid 4th line.

With the improvement of McMann - Domi - Robertson I’d rather see assets spent on a partners for Rielly (Murphy, Larsson, Schenn) or a more legit C upgrade (Granlund, Nelson)

Could a Gourde trade be centred around Kämpf? Centres have value.

I remember when Berube healthy scratched him and I thought Bieksa was going to lose his mind that he would do that to a trusted bottom 6 guy.

I see Kampf as a bad offensive forward that isn’t that great defensively. If he was better in the face off circle I would tolerate him.

Against Detroit last night was a perfect example. Kept losing the draws to Larkin on the PK.

Watch stats on faceoff of every C, they all worst in PK than 5v5 or pp and the reason is simple... In PK you need to win it cleanly because 50/50 faceoff where you need help from winger, its a 1v2 matchup.

He's pretty bad offensively but still pretty good in defensive end... But it's contract make him look like a player to being move

Yeah yeah two SC's, but those are team accomplishments, his last two seasons haven't bee exactly great 14 goals and followed by 11 last year and he's on much the same trajectory this year and then theres' this 5'9" 170.

Is he going to be the difference maker the Leafs need?
I think they don't really need a difference maker so much as someone to keep Kampf from ever playing in the top 9. He was 5'9" 170 when he won his Cups so he maybe gets a pass there but he is old and expensive. Retention costs and another 1st gone for a pure rental would sting (but not as much as for Savard).

I believe he would get them closer to their Cup than whatever they would spend to get him but they kind of only have one bullet in their gun and then its "add a scrub" or a Marlie for other changes,

Why wouldn't he just go back to Tampa

So you are talking next year rather than a trade this year? I am not sure how connected he would feel to resigning with TB after being left unprotected. I would be really surprised if the Leafs had any interest next season unless they had traded for him and he really rocked it. Just because of his age.

His cap hit is awful.
Unless Kampf+ is going the other way to mitigate. But how attractive is the to Seattle?

I'd be OK with him as an addition if it was for a 3rd rounder or low-to-mid level prospect.

Rather have him than not have him, but not for much as far as assets go.

Hard pass. This guy is literally the forward version of Matt Murray. 5 to 6 years ago when Tampa won those back-to-back cups he was amazing. I would be all over bringing him aboard back then. But he's nowhere near the same player anymore.

Focus on getting somebody else.
