Ovi is the greatest scorer of all-time so he certainly deserves it. It’s not that simple though. Imo, you eventually do, but only if Montreal agrees (they donated the trophy).

Ovechkin is the greatest goal scorer of all time, but I think you leave it the way it is. Hockey has some pretty cool traditions and I think you gotta respect that.

This is a great idea. In fact, we should rename all trophies based on who wins it the most times.

The Norris Trophy would become the Bobby Orr Trophy, the Art Ross Trophy would become the Wayne Gretzky [unless you want to change the Hart Trophy to the Gretzky, then the Ross becomes the Gordon Howe; otherwise the Hart becomes the Gordie Howe], the Selke Trophy to the Bob Gainey [unless Bergeron wins it a 5th time, then we'll call it the Patrice Bergeron], the Conn Smythe to the Patrick Roy, the Vezina to the Jacques Plante, and the Lady Byng to the Frank Boucher. Also, the Jack Adams becomes the Patrick Burns and we just change the Calder and Masterton to whoever won it most recently.

And, of course, the Stanley Cup becomes the Montreal Canadiens Cup.

:eyeroll:

Why do people want to rename trophies just because someone wins it a lot? I've been seeing this a lot lately when it comes to Bergeron and the Selke. I don't want to see any trophies renamed, especially the Rocket which to me is an awesome name for a goal scoring trophy.

He certainly would deserve it as the greatest goal-scorer of all-time, but they should keep the name as it is.

LOL No way! Ovie can eventually be the greatest goalscorer of all time when all will be said and done but the trophy is named in the honor of the original GOAT goalscorer, the Babe Ruth of hockey and one if not the greatest legend in the NHL history, Maurice 'Rocket' Richard then no!

pettiness on another level

but ur right

Tradition and heritage is the baggage of old men. Stop carrying it.

Ovechkin getting the trophy renamed after him wouldn't be some sacrilegious act like so many want to think it would be. He would absolutely be deserving of such an honor.

Yes it would, Maurice Richard deserves more respect for what he brought to the game and rename the trophy would be a slap in the face to him and his legacy. He was the original GOAT goalscorer.
