Removing Stick Grip

Hey all, Experienced player here. Just broke another APX2 and couldn't justify splurging on another expensive stick. I found an 87 flex kane curve stick on the discount rack and had to pull the trigger for 60 bucks. Only problem? Not used to using the grip, and had some trouble handling the puck in my game. Anyone have any experience in removing the grip off the stick without completely ruining it aesthetically?

My son hates grip and I googled it, but didn't try anything.

One idea I thought made sense was buying a clear coat spray can and doing a couple of coats of that.

The grip on my CCM ultra tacks wore off after a couple pickup games, possibly because I went hard into the corner and lost my stick. it was mostly submerged in the snow along the boards, that may have had something to do with it.
The clear coat idea sounds good too.

I went to my local shop a few weeks ago and found that they only carry grip sticks now. I hate grip! It makes stick feel way to heavy to me. The guy at the shop recommended sand paper. I wasn't going to buy a $100+ stick just to sand paper it. But if you already have it I guess it's worth a try.

I hate grip but find it's more and more common these days. I buy all my sticks when they're on sale, so I don't always have a choice. Two light coats of clear spraypaint has worked really well for me. I've done it to about 4 sticks so far. I had been using a can of high-end automotive clearcoat that I had leftover from a mirror fix (can't remember the name at the moment) but I would imagine any reputable brand should work.

Clearcoat spray, sandpaper or even thin clear packing tape work well.

Huh neat idea, one would tape it vertically of course.
Yup, clean with alcohol, the apply 2 strips vertically. I have OCD so it's taken me a while to do it with no air bubbles...only to find out I prefered the grip, lol

Last week, I received my True A6.0 ABP shaft with what was advertised as "light grip coating." I assumed it would be similar to the coating on the A6.0 OPS I have from last year, which is very light. I assumed wrong. It's that tacky type of grip coating, which I hate BTW, and there is nothing light about it.

I'm a non-grip guy, but I can handle grip texture or what can legitimately be defined as "light grip." I slapped a couple coats of matte clearcoat on it and it's good as new.

I just got a Ribcor stick from my daughter and it seems much stickier than my Tacks stick was.
By accident, I got some blade butter on the shaft and went to rub it off and it made the tackiness go away.
I decided to try using this where I put my lower hand, so I rubbed the blade butter on the shaft, and removed the excess with a towel. I then rubbed it in, then rubbed it off like if waxing a car.
Just messing around in my garage it seems to feel like a non tacky shaft now. I will find out how it really feels on ice this Sat. and I'll report back.

Well, the blade butter didn't work. It seemed like it disappeared before I even made it to the rink. The shaft did seem to be a little less tacky but not like when I first applied the blade butter.
