RIP Guy Guy Guy Guy Guy Guy Guy Guy

I remember in junior in a rookie camp training game where we went to Quebec to play an exhibition game and Guy was there watching game having a smoke and talked to some of us kids .. such a cool guy, very smooth and very honest

Also remember going to my 1st game at Forum while at Quebec Peewee tournament and my dad surprised us with tickets to Forum and we saw a Leafs vs Habs game on a Saturday night .. OMG I really did not understand it until I felt it .. and I mean felt it .. yeah everyone hears it from upper deck Guy Guy Guy Guy Guy .. but da Forum would shake up there every time he touched da puck .. I have never seen and felt that kinda emotion so many times at a game in my life .. gave me goosebumps .. what a loyal following he had and it was pure emotion

RIP a legend in my mind

Hell of a hockey player, no matter which jersey you rooted for, this guy (no pun intended) transcended team colors. No doubting the impact he had on hockey. RIP Guy.

For the mods, I think we get this has nothing to do with the Leafs but is good to show that not all Leaf fans are dicks and we can pay respect to the greats of other teams, it would be cool if you could leave it up for us to pay respect.

When I was in high school, our class took a trip to Quebec City for their Winter Carnival. I met a local high school girl who just happened to be a hockey fan like me. Now the Leafs had just won the SC. She told me about a young player that was going to be an NHL Superstar. I never forgot her or what she told me. Years later my work took me to meet Guy on numerous occasions. He was the epitomy of class and grace. I marvelled at his smooth style on the ice but also his class off of it. It's such a shame losing Lafleur and Bossy to such a senseless disease. Many fond memories of the hockey player but also the man. Thanks for such wonderful memories.

Smoking kills. He died of Lung Cancer with some Coronary Artery Disease thrown in.

Don't suck shit into your lungs.
If you do smoke, vaping is 95% as good as quitting.
Quitting is 100% good for you.

If anyone here smokes but thinks vaping is just as bad .... please feel free to ask any questions.

Losing Gord Downie to smoking related brain tumours was hard on me. Seeing hockey legends suffer even though I hate the Habs with every bone in my body, I still loved to watch Lafleur. And my Dad loved him.

We've lost two beauties this past week for sure. I remember watching that great seventies Habs team, and in particular remember their proficiency on the PP... just incredible, and they changed the PP rules because of that team and Lafleur. RIP Guy and Mike.

Lafleur was both style and substance: one of the most exciting players ever, humble to a fault, never complaining despite getting physically targeted by opponents, and coming through in the clutch. And all that after being considered a bit of a bust after his first three pro years.

Along with Bossy, we lost two legends.

Sad days. Despite being a Hab :sarcasm:, he was so much fun to watch.

I played in a company hockey tournament in Montreal back in the 90s. The final was between my team and the host (Montreal) team. We came out of the dressing room to see their team already on the ice and one player just flying around the rink. A couple of guys said "oh, s***, they brought in a ringer". I said "take a good look - that's Guy Lafleur".

He had been playing just before us, a couple of their players knew him, and got him to put on their team sweater and skate around just to scare us. It worked.

He was great - chatted with us, and even stayed to watch our game.

I watched more Lafleur than probably everyone on this board added up. It was anamolous I lived in Ottawa and we were only allowed to watch Montreal games.

I hated it at first, but then realized once again god had smiled upon me and forced me to watch the greatest team and the greatest franchise in history.

I got to see guy twice a week for 7 years.

It was unbelievable.

Too bad I had never gotten to meet him, I had terminal cancer 8 years ago. According to Canadian doctors.

Went elsewhere, and only way I am going to see North American doctors ever again is feet first.

Btw, closest player I have ever seen stylistically to guy, is our very own, Willy Styles.

If Willy were quebecois, and could handle criticsim better, he would get the guy treatment.

He was dominating in his day. The bridge player between Esposito and Gretzky for #1 forward in the league. Great shot, speed, hair...he had it all. RIP Guy.

Funny thing, and I just have to point it out. The three biggest "hair guys" who were blond, in the NHL, were in order, Hull(bald now, full on toupee), Guy Lafleur(bald almost from day one, master of the sweep) and Nylander (pick senior or junior, both hair club for me candidates).

I mean when they called Bobby Hull the golden jet, I had to laugh every time, it was like the golden lid.

Anyways, back to the cartoon, regularly broadcast at this time.

Lafleur's son, was a huge source of cortisol for him. But in flower style, he showed up for his son. Still it was always under a quebec spotlight.

Last note. I watched three Leaf players chop away at Lafleur, anxiously, to look good, to get the approval of the Leaf bench.

I was ten feet away.

Lafleur waited till these guys got tried of hacking and gathered the puck he really never lost possession of, and got into an offensive thrust.

Leaving the fans close by, and the three Leaf players, dumbstruck.
