Perhaps the Senators should be like Montreal: most Stanley Cups! :)

Or Chicago and LA if you only look at the past few years!

Or like the NYI or Oilers when they won several Cups!

If you analyze the factors that caused the success to occur, you see talented players, some of the best that ever played the game.

If only we could get players like them.

I'm talking about modern makeup of a team.

We do have talented players and one to ever play the game(Karlsson) thus we just need 1-2 more elite threats and we're good enough to compete for half decade, imo.

I heard there is that young offensive defenceman who is beating all kinds of records of this generation and is on his way into Hall of Fame. He's Swedish. Forgot his name. If only we could get one like him.

The team does have some talented players and yes Karlson is an elite defenceman. Also I think 1-2 more elite players would do quite nicely. Getting Stamkos would be a great start. However, for a number of reasons, I do not think that is going to happen (i.e., getting Stamkos or 1-2 elite players) anytime soon.

That could be Drouin/Matthews/Laine/Pulji tbh. Or so I hope, lol.

Man, winning the draft lottery will fast-track this team 2-3 years into contender conversation.

Little too early to be heaping that kind of praise on David Rundblad isn't it? I mean sure, he's a Blackhawks legend but still...

1. It's passing. We aren't good at it. I've seen Ryan bobble so many pucks on the power-play on short passes from Karlsson it hurts. People are trying to take passes with one hand and such it isn't working. Everyone is having trouble even King K.
Solid post all around (especially the puns of course), but I decided to just highlight the above. I wonder if Ryan's finger injury plays a role in this. Is he used to receiving the pass with the hand that is injured, and could it be why he's bobbling it so often now? And then of course by the time he recovers the pass, the shooting options are gone and all that's left for him is to pass the puck back to Karlsson.

I feel that so many things can be explained by injuries. It's the simplest explanation that fits the fact that essentially the same team and coach from the second half of last year can be underperforming so badly just half a year later.

It doesn't take much for a pass to go from perfect to awful

I think it's a confidence issue more than anything: the team is extremely fragile and everybody is way too jumpy

It's coaching. We're not hitting players on the move because we're not supporting the puck. We're trying to hit the far-side winger in flight, and it's hard to find that seam. So the receiver usually has to slow up to get the pass, or he can't reach it b/c it's too far ahead of him.

We've gotten away from overloading the strong side and breaking out from there. That used to let us hit the center with a short, soft pass as he broke out with speed.

A lot of the problem is this. It's frustrating enough to explain this to my beer league team, infuriating to have to relive it from my couch watching the sens play.

One word: Money!

If the Senators offer more money per year over a longer term he might come here. I am not saying he will come here, nor am I saying the Senators will offer more money than Toronto. There are issues with climate, income tax, etc. versus other cities, particularly some in the USA which have warmer climates and lower taxes than Ottawa does. BUT it would be great if he did come here!
Yep, and we sure are big Spenders!

Oh...:(
