Reinvention of the "ASG"

So the whole idea of the ASG was to bring the star together because of technological issues. It's 2015. People have youtube center ice etc...

I would say lump allstar events with winter classic but the "league" makes more money splitting up venues.

So what about each team plays for $1,000,000 towards a charity of the captains choice. Or even maybe the winning team votes for the next allstar game. Players votes where to party.

Granted no one watches the game but as a kid and in person it's great. I don't want to see the mlb version where winning team gets home ice.

Any ideas?

they should just have a big party and do a reality show...lol anything is better than what they have now.

watching Ovechkin take Vodka shots and prank people would be entertaining.

Anything that makes the ASG more competitive is not okay. The last thing I want is a star player on my team getting injured in a game that has no bearing on the season.

I don't think the game in itself is worth pursuing. There's just no way to turn it into an entertaining show when players can't go all-out.

Building on the skill competition could be an option. Have every player participate in every challenges. Hand out points depending on the position you finish at in each competition. Have a global ranking. Give out some prizes to the top 3 players or something. A certain amount of money to give out to the charity of their choice, maybe.

In the same mold as a strongest man competition, for example.

They should just do whatever they did in 1996. That was a great game for an All Star Game with a 5-4 score and the game winner coming with under 40 seconds left. And it had basically every single star take part. Lindros, Gretzky, Lemieux, Hasek, Jagr, etc. Just take a look at the roster, insane how much better it looks. Oh yeah, no more fan voting is a great start.

Make it more like the Pro Bowl. Participation is optional, and it doesnt interfere with anything.

The only way it gets better at this point is if you have players that actually want to be there; rather then being coerced, which is an absolute joke.

Then theres stuff like the goalies being ventilated, what kind of perverse reward is that for being one of the league's best? Unless you actually have players make a defensive effort there is no fix for that one.

Personally Im in favor of throwing the whole debacle out. The players actually used to care about the game and took some pride in being selected. Now that this is largely absent, the game is extremely stupid.

Instead, why don't they have it so that the winning team gets to decide which charity / charities a sizable donation goes to.

They'd be playing for something but it wouldn't have an impact on the season or post-season and goes towards a good cause. While the players wouldn't be going all out, the defense and goalies would likely make a better defensive effort.

And I agree -- get rid of fan voting.

I agree with the no fan voting but the whole social media aspect is a pretty big part of everything & to cut that out prolly hurts the game more than anything.
